Is Haye the "Great Black Hope"

The guys got skills, but his chin will be his downfall. It's one thing to hit like a Heavyweight, but taking a Heavyweight punch is a whole nother thing.

 

The hype on him on this forum is ridiculous.

 

He's got all the tools but has he got the chin? Mormeck dropped him, I'm not sure Peter or Klitschko would let him off the hook.

 

One idiot feels he'd be 50/50 with Klitschko. I hope the oddsmakers agree.

I think what you, and many others, are getting at is a good cruiser can not step up in an era of suerheavyweights. I think that's a load of bollocks. Haye would be pretty much the same size as someone like Holmes or Ali, if he wanted to be. They'd both rip the division apart with ease. I'm not aying Haye is anywhere near as good as them two, but you simply can't discount a cruiser like Haye because he's too small. The majority of ATG heavyweights are around the same size. George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis etc. are similar.

His chin will improve as a heavyweight, though. The constant weight draining hurt his chin and stamina severely. If he can make he weight comfortably, and add some muscle on his neck, he will take a better punch.

I gotta remind people that he has never been knocked out, either. His chin is being made out to be glass, yet he has always got back up. Even against the hard hitting Thompson, when he was taking hard, flush shots, he wasn't KOed.

No it's not. Most people are realistic about his skills and also his flaws. The furthest most people are going is saying he can beat several top heavyweights, which is spot on, I think. The people saying he will beat Wlad right now are idiots, but the majority have him summed up well.

There are also people who underrate him severely. People think USS can beat him, which, as anyone who has seen most of Haye's fights, knows is insane. People think he has zero chance against a heavyweight with a heartbeat. Again, stupid.

 

Time will tell Jack, it's one thing to get up from a decent punch from Mormeck, but it's another to take one from a heavy hitter like Wlad or Peter, his defense needs improvement as well, his chin seems ripe for the taking most of the time. Though I would rather see him rule the division, than a scared fighter like Wlad, who I'm embarassed to say to my friends, is the best we have right now in Heavyweight division

saying haye cant beat a top 20 fighter is ridiculous, actually it's stupid... haye fights great from what i've seen.. not necessarily a great fighter yet, but he has potential..also he has a nice variety of skills that 95% of the heavyweights dont have.. and all the power and the world means nothing if it's telegraphed.. not saying that haye can beat wlad, cuz' that too is ridiculous to me... but he can take out a good grip of the heavys....

 

You should have been here before Guinn fought Barrett. Hell, this forum basically had him as a mix between Holyfield and Tyson before that fight. I got literally harrassed for saying that Monte Barrett was going to beat him. I tried to tell people from day one that Guinn was LAZY, and fought at too slow of a pace. Just stands in front of his opponents, right in their punching range and does NOTHING.

 

yeah... and as blackk person, i would never call someone like haye the "black hope"... although he's technically blackk, he doesnt exactly meet black america's standards... but still, i like him either way, cause he's got the makings to be a beast..

As Warren said Hayes never fought in front of more than 2000 people at places like York Hall. No TV network was willing to show his last fight against Mormeck until 48 hrs before the bell. He got 20 fights under his belt.
The Big Mac fights infront of 50,000 (48,000 ppl more that Haye gets)at Football Stadiums and the like. Experience of almost 30 fights.
He uses a better coach. The list goes on &.
Bookies might have Haye favorite going into this just about but i think thats down to the fight being in Hayes backyard.
