I understand your point but its a rather simplistic one. David Haye and Jeff Lacy are very different to each other in personaltiy and style of fighting. Haye has proven be a puncher....i.e Mormeck, Macarenelli and Barrett. How great his power is...is to be seen.
why do people like comparing boxers to jeff lacy so much even when the boxer is not even remotley similar in any way. i've heard many jeff lacy comparisons applied to guys like berto, chad dawson, ect. its gets annoying after a while.
I just don't see it guys. I look at Haye and I see a big strong fast guy with no defense. No defense in a division where guys hit like mules is a bad idea. Haye got away with it at cruiser because lets face it, he was a big guy for being a cruiser. But heavyweights are different. Not only are they different, the power, speed, height, stamina, resistance, strength, flexibility, adaptability and countless other things vary significantly from fighter to fighter. Beating Monte Barret does not make you an instant conquerer of the division. Case in point, Brewster beats Klitschko, Liahovik beats Brewster, Valuev beats Liahovik, Chagaev beats Valuev, Klitschko beats Chagaev and so on. Some say styles make fights, and I agree, but in the heavyweight division, it's a lot more than style that makes a fight. I see Haye as a kid in a hot rodded Ford Mustang GT showing up at a top fuel funny car race with the expectation of actually being able to win a race. Not going to happen.
Exactly. If these people don't realise that Haye is skilful then I don't know what they are watching. Haye Lacy is frankly a riddiculous comparrison. If the gifted one had approached it from the angle of hype I may have commented on it but this is a joke!
What skill? Speed is not a skill. Power is not a skill. Lack of chin is not a skill. Lack of stamina is not a skill. Talking.....well, I guess he is skilled in moving his mouth. After this fight, I guess he will really develop additional skills, like eating through straws and using a blender to prepare his meals.
Most of the points you are making are nothing to do with skill. Haye abandoned his skills against Monte Barrett because he was so eager to make a big statement, thats why he threw so many wild right hands and abandoned the jab. Against Mormeck he showed he can box sensibly to a gameplan when neccessary. The guy was a very good amateur, he has skill. He can be hit, and when he is hit it tends to look bad because he's not durable, but he doesn't get often. If you think he gets hit often you might have to reassess his chin.
Will, Lacy is the classic Humpty Dumpty story, fragile to begin with and nothing couldn't put him back together again after he broke. It's not Joe's fault that he was the first guy to push him off the wall.
Joe was a master in his fight against Jeff. It was like watching a surgeon operate. Lacy was a huge favorite to win that fight because supposedly, his power was enormous. He was measured as hitting harder than his heavyweight Olympic game counter parts. Of course, I find it funny that he was ko'd in the Olympics by a Russian. I guess everyone had forgotten that.
