He looks sharp as he fought Mayweather fighter Dion Savage. But.... WHY did he go pro so late? http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=oC3v_FjDDuI
Stevenson is okay but not great. He went pro late because he didn't move to Canada until fairly late and was trying to make the Olympic team (but was beat out by his cousin, Jean Pascal). I've seen about 6 or 7 of his fights, and while he's heavy handed, he's very basic and wild. Think Curtis Stevens.
Hes got some good power in those shots and he leaves himself wide open, hes been knocked out once already. Put him in with Pryor Jr. would be a good test
I believe the most (out of the new wave) in Shawn Estrada. I want to see him against somebody from top30 at SMW. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=474207&cat=boxer
If he is lucky he will get a rep for easy KO's. Then step up and loose. I saw Stevenson's last fight.
Stevenson did some time in jail if I'm right. It's probably a reason why he turned pro a little bit late.
Maybe Demitrius Andrade? Both at the same stage the only difference is the Brewer win. I am very questionable about Estrada but he has potential I think.
George Groves? James DeGale? Tommy Oosthuizen? I think Estrada is clearly better than guys like Pryor, Edwin Rodriguez, Dyah Davis, Marcus Johnson and Don George, but I'm not sure he'll be better than any of those first three, and is probably about at the same level as guys like Peter Quillen, Marco Antonio Periban (who was the first guy to legitimately knock out the same Darnell Boone who flattened Stevenson and knocked down Andre Ward) and Isaac Chilemba. 168 is a pretty stacked division in terms of prospects though. On top of the ones already mentioned, there are guys who look promising like Serge Yannick, Dominic Wade, Julius Jackson (Julian's son) and Jinner Guerrero (who knocked out a pretty good Everth Bravo in only his 5th pro fight). Should be a good division for a very long time.
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=337328 I take the credit for discovering first Jinner Guerrero, I like very much Marco Antonio Periban but something looked fishy recently at him, don't know to explain it, I feel like he has good and very good stuff in him but lacks something he will hit a wall at one point and won't be able to pass it,something similar to Andrade.I really like Tommy Oosthuizen I think if he improves essential areas in his game if he learn how to use that range at maximum if he finds a style of his own and start perfecting it , he can be a very good boxer and a true champion in few years. Dyah Davis, Marcus Johnson and Don George, have no chance in ever becoming even gatekeepers. George Groves I don't think he'll improve in the impressive way Carl Froch did, and I don't think he'll fill the holes in his game, he will be top 15 maybe even top 10 at SMW he will probably have a chance at one of the titles, maybe even a vacant one and I feel like he'll stop there at the first real tough test at World stage he will find out he doesn't have what he takes. Don't really know what to say about James DeGale. He seems similar to Dirrell great skills and psychically fragile, depends how will he serious he'll get about boxing and how confident he'll became in his ability. I would love to see more of Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna, who as same as Jinner Guerrero we don't know much about it.
Dominic Wade , don't know why but I've confused him with Will Rosinsky. Wade is impressive so far hope he develops well
Would love to see Marco Antonio Periban against someone decent like Brinkley, Magee, Ornelas to make a better idea about him. I hope I'm wrong and he'll become a force because I like him but just for some reason I got these feeling that he'll stop at one point and disappoint me.
The guy is not "new". And not skilled enough to be threat to the top guys. He sure can punch (was he digging that body in there!) (oh and the prison time was a long time ago (he was 19)..for pimping underage teens...)
