Seen a few Eddie Hearn interviews recently where he has named both Deontay Wilder and Errol Spence and suggesting that they are not big enough stars or not active enough. I might be well out here, but. For Wilder, Hearn said he should be a superstar and is not being promoted well, which is surely throwing a hand grenade in to the Wilder promotional and management camp. Is Hearn just ruffling feathers, or is he outright saying, Deontay i can do much better for you and make you a megastar. Deontay is probably believing that he should be a bigger star, so is Hearn must be getting in his mind. I don't think Hearn would be good for Wilder though. And for Spence, Hearn gave similar compliments and said that Spence hasn't fought since May and that after the great defeat of Brook he should have a much higher profile and bigger and regular big money fights. I think Hearn is impressed by Spence and i also believe that Hearn would be a good promoter for Spence for some reason. Just a gut feeling i've got. And i'm no fan of Eddie Hearn mind.
He seems smart enough to not bite off more than he can chew with his attempts to get into US boxing. With Danny Jacobs and 4 HBO dates to start, he has enough on his plate. In a year's time he could probably stretch a bit further and sign another fighter or 2, but he has to be careful not to overextend. He definitely won't want to ruffle any feathers as right now he is probably one of the few guys in the US that can work with any of GBP, Top Rank and Haymon.
I dont know where they are going to get Spence that 3.5mil. I imagine Peterson will be getting around 700k which puts the main event purse alone over 4mil.
I dont know why he doesnt go for Mikey Garcia personally... he seems an obvious signing for someone like Eddie Hearn.
I think Jacobs is a good fighter, but i don't feel he's going to be a megastar because i don't see him fighting GGG again or even getting a Canelo fight to be honest. Whereas Spence i feel could be the real deal and to be truthful, i think he is promoted badly. If Hearn could sign Spence then i think he could make him a megastar and a signing like that would be a a massive statement of intention.
if I was an Al Haymon fighter, I would do anything to get out of a contract with him and try to join Matchroom or any other legit stable that has an "actual promoter". As a fighter, I don't think I'd like to be so inactive even if I got paid PBC type of money.
I don't think Hearn is ready for a potential megastar. If he can get Jacobs into a position where he is selling out the Barclays Center and doing good numbers on HBO, a fight against Jacobs will only be logical for GGG or Canelo. The kind of money that Spence would want per fight, isn't something that Hearn can guarantee until he has proven himself promoting in the US.
It's not that he wants Spence and Wilder he needs them Espically Spence.I think if Hearn can Sweeten Al Haymon in a way which you Advise them,I promote them.Hearn with the Sky Platform can make them megastars in the US and UK which are the two Main Markets.Interestingly Hearn also keeps saying 'i want 16 dates and i will work with anyone' seems as if he is just begging for a US Network to give him the dates and money.
Yeah that makes sense as well. But i do think that with Hearn's ego, being a bit part player might not be enough.
Do you think that Jacobs could sell out the Barclays center on a regular basis without the GGG's and Canelo's? Be interesting to see if Hearn can pull that off though.
