Is Hector Camacho an all time great?

No. Very talented, but overrated even in that regard.

I dont understand when some say he had the potential to be but didnt reach his potential. what else was he supposed to achive that he didnt do?

 

Well since he didn't beat Chavez and Tito in big fights, and was beaten rather easily in both those fights as well as losing to Haugen in that point deduction fight, he could have fought Whitaker at 135 or 140 and beat him or get a decent 140 reign going. He didn't defend his titles much, and then he won the WBO title which was a decent reign but no much great names. He did not win another legit title after 140. The way he fought at 130 you would think he could have had a career like Whitaker, and he did not. Not close. I thought his potential was that he could have been a superfight fighter. What great wins did he have? He is HOF for sure, but not ATG.

 

Arguello and Nelson were lead-footed fighters. No way could they keep up with Camacho. MAB was not good enough at 130 and I think Chacon would get stopped. Flash and PBF may have beaten him. There are not many fighters that could have beaten Camacho at 130. Besides Meldrick Taylor, Camacho was the fastest fighter I ever saw. Let's not forget that Camacho was knocking guys out with his speed at 130.

 

Hector Camacho IS a modern ATG, more worthy of the acolade over many that have since followed him!!!

Camacho is 1 of d greatest 50 fighters of all times 4 sure .
Which means that he was greater than most HOFers .

 

No way is he an ATG. But his win over JLR was highly impressive stuff, as was his blitzing of Limon.

 

Today he would be considered one. In the context of his career, I would say no.

 

Camacho could have achieved more. He had bad drug problems, was a lazy trainer and didnt always give it his best.

IMO, he's an absolute monster h2h @130-140 and I do believe that he deserves to be in the HOF BUT I do not believe he's a p4p atg...nor is he in my top 10 in any of the weight classes he fought at. Oh and to answer the OP's question on who be favored over whom, '82-'83 Camacho'd be a threat to any SFW in history.
