It works more often than not. The point is that it’s pretty out there to suggest that Camacho would beat Chavez.
AND Oscar was wayyy past his prime, and a part time fighter living the party life by the time he fought Mayweather Jr. Yet he gave May Jr. A better fight than he gave Pac, ( Certainly wasn't a "white wash") who did what should've been to Oscar by Floyd. Made him realize his prime and best years were at least 10yrs gone. Retired him permanently. Is that the reason May Jr. waited years before he decided to fight Pac? After he obviously became damaged goods?
Cesar Chavez takes Camacho from 1989 on but as early as 1987, Hector would take a comfortable decision. The reason? Julio cant touch him. Héctor easily outmaneuvers him and constantly beats him to the punch After the verdict is announced, Julio remarks "it was like fighting a ghost!' 1985 Newly crowned lightweight champ Camacho is clearly the cream of the crop and easily outpoints Julio, winning every round. No contest 1984 Newly crowned WBC titlist JC Chavez has his first title but is wise to avoid the true Champ, Camacho who is so far ahead of the pack that there is no second place. Had this match been made, Julio would have taken so many shots is quick succession, he never would have lasted the full 15 and possibly stopped before 12
Mark - Nelson was never ever considered a "huge" puncher and never will be and that comes from one of his bigger supporters. I lived the era and was a sponge for everything going on and your observations and claims are simply incorrect. Feel free to produce some contemporary writings of this huge power. I could go into a long spiel and cite this and that but it's so obvious and already carved in stone i don't need to. As for the other Nelson was miles better P4P than Rosario but he was not a better lightweight. There's also a reasonable chance he wasn't a better lightweight than Ramirez/Boza/Mancini/Davis Jr/Paz/Haugen. We are talking bigger men!!!!!! Zoomah didn't beat anybody at 135!!!!! tho he fight well against Whitaker. As for power - Villasana BEST PUNCHER Jaime Garza: He made me dance, but he did not drop me. Without any doubt, he was the best puncher of all rivals I ever faced. He had a lot of power, more than Nelson. However, the difference is he was not able to resist [my power]. He could hit, but he could not stand up to my power shots. Azumah was able to throw and receive. Gomez That is without doubt Carlos Zarate. Fenech BEST PUNCHER Victor Callejas: Without any doubt, Victor Callejas. Wow, he could punch hard. Also, Samart Payakaroon, he knocked out Lupe Pintor, Juan Meza; he knocked out everyone. Victor Callejas, he punched hard, those short, sharp punches. I’ll always remember when hit me with the same punch, a left uppercut. He hit another guy, Loris Stecca, with it, lifted him off the floor like a rocket and he fell backwards. It was amazing. Grove BEST PUNCHER Kostya Tszyu: Oh man…when he caught me and it was like, “Wow, where am I at?” He could punch. The reason he caught me was because I wasn’t 25 no more. Laporte BEST PUNCHER Mario Miranda: I got rocked about once or twice in my whole career and one of them was Mario Miranda for the title. He only had power in one hand, the right hand. After he hit me in the second round, that’s it. I didn’t let him hit me with that hand anymore. Chavez had power; Gomez had a little power but he didn’t do anything to me either. Salvador didn’t have the power punch. Pedroza had a little power but didn’t hurt me. The only time he hurt me was when he hit me in the groin, low blows and kidney punches. McGuigan, no, he had fast hands; he was like Ruben Castillo. Nelson, I didn’t even feel it cause he didn’t want to get near me. Kostya Tszyu was a very powerful puncher, that’s the only fight that I ever thought I was in trouble ’cause I knew I was out of condition and this guy was way bigger than me out of my (natural) weight (class) and I just had to fight my way all the way to the 10 rounds. Everybody knows Zack (Padilla, the only fighter to stop Laporte) wasn’t a power puncher. He was a busy fighter; he had conditioning, throwing punches from everywhere but he wasn’t a power puncher. I was hitting him harder than he was hitting me. He was just hitting me more and he was way bigger. Leija mentions a handful but no Nelson despite fighting him three times!!! Ruelas - Gatti. Let that be the concluder. Nelson hit hard, perhaps even very hard but not "huge". Many actually rave about his defense and chin, certainly more so than his power.
Whitaker and Camacho sparred just after Whitaker had turned pro or thereabouts, I think. According to the story Camacho lost his **** when Whitaker got the better of him and was thrown out of the gym as a result. That's how I remember it, anyhow.
No just real assessments of his abilities, especially at the higher weights. I've said on many occasions at Jr.lightweight he was one the best I've seen. But as his fame and money grew, and as he went up in weight, he was very reluctant to take on serious challenges. Unlike Pac. Who put it on the line against better competition ,and in my opinion ranks higher in ATG though he had more losses. I unlike you and his fanbase look at him without blinders on.
You sat there believing that Mayweather would lose every fight for a decade straight and had your hopes crushed each time.
It does, Hector had no idea how to dominate Rosario Chavez could do everything Rosario could but better except punch with one punch power.
