just watch the last round of his bout against trinidad

for someone who clearly way past his prime he did well to neutralized tito's punching power.

I wonder how good he could have been if he didn't live such a wild life between fights. I still think he got screwed in the Haugen fight and I won betting against him.
Some one needs to write a book about Camacho because if even 1% of the stories I've heard about him in the last 25 years are true it would make Johnny Tapia's story look like Dr. Seuss.

well, he retreated in last 3 rounds and got a point deducted in 12th, and certainly the ref didnt like him... I dont think chavez would get point deducted just because refusing to touch glove. But he floored Haugen in 3rd or 4th round so he should still end up winning by split decision.

as for his life style outside the ring, I think his downfall is nowhere as bad as Tyson or some other greats... also he never suffered a brutal KO or anything like that... think about Roy Jones in last 5 years.

Well, I certaintly didnt know all his personal troubles and lifestyle apart from what can be found on sport newspaper here at the time... but in his fight against Chavez something definetely wrong with his physical condition, he didnt have those muscles and his jab and combination looks sloppy as hell.. he also lost his great footwork .

Im not sure if he's already clean right now cause in most interview he still sounds high

If you look closely Camacho did his own version of what Floyd is doing today. He won fights and became famous. Then, he just made money with his mouth. I can't blame him. His mouth got fights against DLH and Tito. There was not reason for them to fight Camacho other rhan Camacho being a show man who attracted the public. Yeah he lost, but got paid.

Let me tell you something. Camacho has never completely setlte down. He is just older and can't party as hard as before. But he has never stopped. By the tine he fought Rosario he was already in drugs, Rosario too. Actually they did hang out together for sometime.
I learned the little boxing I know from Camacho's stepfather. He was at the time in charge of the boxing gym in Valencia. That is in Bayamon, P.R.

After that I went to train for some time to Toa Baja. Lalo Medina was in charge of that gym and was Chapo's trainer. Chapo used to completely dissappear for days. Not even his family was able to find him.

Yeah, they were not greater because they fell into drugs. But Camacho's skills were undeniable.

I actually think Camacho's power was underrated. One thing is being feather fisted and another choosing not engage or look for the KO. However, Camacho surprised more than a few fighters whenever he decided to trade.

I think Camacho had more skill and savvy than J.C. Chavez had, but the weight limit of 140 pounds took a lot outta Camacho back in 1992.... Camacho beat up some pug on HBO just 6 weeks before his meeting with Chavez on PPV and Camacho weighed 148 pounds and looked solid and strong..... Camacho was eating Ex-Lax prior to his weigh-in for Chavez....

Im happy to see Camacho getting respect in this thread. Too often his career was overshadowed by what could have been instead of what he did accomplish. He was consensus #1 p4p at one point and he dominated magazine covers during his prime.

He was still ok as faded great against trinidad but against de la hoya it was clearly $ nothing more, he was 35 and decided to dropped like 13 pounds from previous fight so we all know what he's looking for.

I think he's a fighter that took most punches from prime chavez without going down.

Isnt it remarkable that this guy is still beating 154 lb prospects NOW? Incredible, just with a jab, defense, and veteran wile. Ever since he's turned 38:

    UD over Troy Lowry: 24-1
    UD over Duran: 103-15
    TKO over Perry Ballard: 20-1

Camacho didn't really beat a 45 year old Duran in 1996.... That was a gift......

Camacho did outbox a 50 year old Duran in 2001 in the middle of Colorado....
