The guy is getting bigger and his fighters more exposure with Itv.I guess my point is after a Frank Warren dominated 20 years would a promoter that got as big as Warren be a help or a hinderance to boxing in this country. Will it spur Warren into making better match ups for his fighters in a bid to stay one step ahead of the competition or will it simply dilute the talent even more and make decent match ups even harder to come by?
let's hope so. His cards are competitive but as he tastes success and the money starts to come in will he do a Joe C??? lol.
Hennessey isn't good for British boxing..........he's great. Top class competitive domestic fights which provide plenty of excitement and are much cheaper than the one sided Gary Lockett v ???? fights we used to get from Warren. Not that Lockett was earning more than these guys were to fight other good domestic fighters, just that Warren was probably getting way more from ITV to out them on. Hennessey doesn't just produce fights like that but also gives us the likes of Froch v Pascal and Thaxton v Melero, he's really delivering a top top product.
I have given Hennessy a lot of stick for various things, justifiably IMO, notably his delusion about the abilities of Junior Witter and the lack of marketing of his fighters (other than dissing Hatton/Calzaghe and calling people out needlessly). However - you have got to give him his due here. I suppose everybody knew that there could be a large interest in boxing given the right product. He has guys that are good to watch, in competitive fights - not younger vs old/shot/small opponent ala SN. The fights are also for REAL titles. A casual sports fan wouldn't know what the **** a WBO intercontinental title was, but a BRITISH, EUROPEAN or WBC one certainly stands out. Well done, Big Mick. Keep up the good work.
He's raised his game significantly recently, I'm very impressed with what he's been putting together. If it encourages Warren to do the same, I'll be very happy.
He's getting bigger. He needs to sort out the cringe worthy style of the shows. Especially with the ITV methods of behind the scenes interviews! LOL
