Everyone talks about Foreman's performance versus Holyfield and Holmes performance against Mercer and McCall but I never hear anyone talk about how close Holyfield-Holmes was. I watched it a couple of times and both times I scored it 115-113 Holyfield

It should've appreciated Holmes' standing but at the time it seemed to depreciate Holyfield's and now maybe we can flip that the way it should be. The way I want it. The way that benefits what I'm a fan of and who I'm a fan of and to which fan of me fighter fan fight fanning.

It's Holyfield's performance is unappreciated. Once he got that nasty cut, he went into 2nd gear and kind of held Holmes on a string.

I don't know where some people get their ideas from OP. Nearly everybody praises Holmes and says Holyfield was lucky he wasn't around in '83.

I don’t have a scorecard and haven’t seen that fight since 1992. But I remember Evander winning almost every round. And at times ( from vague memory ) it almost looked like neither were going at the other too hard. I suppose Holmes deserves some credit for taking the champ the distance at his advanced age. But I don’t recall it being a great fight at all

Everyone here is making me want to re-watch the fight and match it to my memory, but...I just don't have the time! Work keeps wanting me to work! It doesn't make sense! That's not what I signed up for!

Yes, while I am Holmes' #2 detractor here, due to all the ridiculous fawning and hyping he gets from people who should know better, Holmes put on a diametrically opposite performance to the one he gave against Tyson a few years earlier. I thought Holmes actually looked like an ATG who stretched Holyfield awfully far here. A performance Larry should be proud of for sure.

I never understood how and why a fighter of Holmes discipline and will never took a hint and hired a Mackie Shilstone during his comeback and did strength training added a little muscle and lost the spare tyre he had hosted since 1985.

I don't think it was a great fight at all.
Holmes was doing enough keep from getting hurt, whilst Holyfield just seemed to keep plugging away , whilst realising he wasn't getting Larry out of there.
At least with Foreman V Holyfield we had the drama of George's punching power to keep us watching.

Agree. Foreman had Evander Legitimately hurt in that match

I had 116-112 Holyfield and am confident Holmes reverses that score or does better if he was 10 years younger

Larry's win against Mercer makes me wonder how well he would have fared in the 90's had he been in his prime then.
