Well he's not really getting lighter. Holyfield has been coming in at those weights since he first came to the heavyweight division. His weight fluctuates somewhere between 210 and 225. One thing I heard a while back is that he actually walks around at about 200 lbs and then before a fight he bulks himself up to the heavyweight limit with weight lifting.
He made himself a heavyweight. If not quite at the start of his HW career in '88, then most definitely by the time he came back from his first retirement in '93. Most fighters aren't as ripped, I can think of a few 230 pounders in the heavyweight ranks that could hit 210-215 if they trained right.
Evander is a heavyweight, many other heavyweight simply lack his dedication and that is why they come in overweight.
I would doubt that is the case to be honest, that would be a very unnatural approach. He is far more likely to walk around at 220-230 and drop the unnecessary bulk/fat throughout the training camp. Man does he look good for his age though, thats one 46 year old you wouldn't want to **** with.
Thats inaccurate information. The human body doesnt work like that. Holyfield lost 15lbs and suffered for over a month after he beat Qawi. So its clearly apparent he was struggling to make the old cruiser limit. That being said he can dry out to 200lbs and rehydrate to well over 210lbs. But NOT the other way round. You cant just magically pile on 15lbs by just lifting weights. Musculature can take months or years to build. Its clearly evident though that Holy was already too big for cruiser when he fought there hence why he moved to heavy but was an albeit very small heavy.
I bet he could make cruiserweight if he drained himself, but at this point in his career he does not have the speed to compete at that weight cause at heavy even at his age of 46 he has more speed then a lot of guys cause of his smaller size.
If Cruiser was 200 back in those days he could've made it for longer. But Holy's far from the only great heavyweight to weigh in at 215 or less...
Illogical. Axel Schultz lost a tremendous amout of weight once towards the end of his career due to illness. He was around 160lbs and fought as a heavy at around 210lbs at 6ft 3. Similar stats to Holy infact. Weight is NOT synonimous with performance. As fighters they must find a weight that there body is comfortable with in order to peform at there best.
Just someting I heard a while back, I've doubted myself.. but it doesn't seem so unlikely if you've ever seen Holyfield in between fights. When he's not in shape to fight he really doesn't look any bigger or more muscular than your average guy. He really does look like he walks around weighing about 200 lbs.
Thats what iv always thought. His calves are fairly average but his shorts are long enough that you dont really get a chance to see his glutes or quads.
look, Holyfield is nearly 6'3. He's not that small. Just cuz he was lighter when he was younger. There are plenty of guys who are contenders now or contended recently at heavy who are smaller than Holyfield. How about Ibragimov or Chagaev? Holyfield has not been a cruiser in more than a decade and a half. are people that surprised an American heavy keeps in shape instead of carrying useless fat around?
That may be the case right now, but in his prime his legs had some real good muscuar definition. Don't know what happend as he got older?
