Didn't Hopkins call out Kovalev before the Cleverly fight?

Don't think it can be said he is ducking if so.

Not only that but he's almost unifying a division. Hate to say this and I know it will sound rude but most guys his age don't make it healthy and alive.

I don't disagree with you. I just think in fighting Hopkins, Kovalev is giving legitimacy to the 50 Year Old Aging Wonder. It is a waste of Kovalev's time. Who cares if Hopkins even wins the fight? I don't. Kovalev needs to stay focused on REAL fighters, guys who are going to try and win in a legitimate manner. Hopkins hasn't done this in years, IF EVER.

He did call him out and made numerous public interviews calling him out as well. Kovalev' team ignored him.

That's because Kovalev's team is savvy. They understand there is no upside to fighting Hopkins. NONE. And it is not just Kovalev's team.

There's far too much risk involved in fighting Hopkins for the amount of money it will provide. Losing to a 50 year old could pretty much ruin them.

Maybe, but the bottom line is Hopkins is a spoiler, nothing else. I commend Kovalev for being able to recognize this. Hopkins needs Kovalev. Kovalev does not need Hopkins. Let Hopkins go "gentle into that goodnight."

    Not really.

Kov was Hopkins mandatory but Hopkins told him to fight Cleverly first. Than they would fight if Kov leaves HBO. :rofl

I want to fight Bernard Hopkins because he is a legend of boxing," Kovalev said after knocking out White. "It was good news that Hopkins and Karo Murat fell out. C'mon and fight. I'm ready. Are you ready?" -ESPN

For me, it’s a no-brainer,” the 48-year-old Hopkins said. “Kovalev can go get Cleverly, I can probably get Adonis and we go head-to-head and give the fans the old light heavyweight battles they had in the late '70 and '80s, and then the winners can fight. It doesn’t seem complicated. OK, maybe I’m being a little sarcastic.”

I’m a Showtime fighter. I’m loyal to Showtime. I’m loyal to Richard Schaefer. I’m loyal to Al Haymon,” Hopkins told reporters shortly after his unification win Saturday over Beibut Shumenov. “Unless Kovalev comes here or crosses the street…”

If the chance do come that I don’t have the WBO belt, the person that beats the man that beats the man that beats the man becomes the guy. You got the ring belt, you got the WBC, you got the IBF, you got the WBA, you are the man,” he said.
He was then asked, if you were to not include Kovalev’s belt in the conversation, whether Kovalev is part of the picture.
“Not if he’s across the street,” Hopkins said.

If that's the case then Hopkins isn't interested in fighting him. Let's see what the future holds to finally know. Hopkins doesn't duck anyone, especially not at 50 years of age.

Bhop is getting up there, still I can see him putting on a performance similar to his Pavlik outing. Kovalev and Pavlik have similarities in their fight game and oddly enough I can see the same holes in their approach. That said Kovalev is more disciplined and his focus is awesome...two attributes Kelly never maintained on a consistant basis. It would be an intriguing match up.

LOL. Hopkins has slowly explained this several times for those people who are more slow minded than others. Still, you must have not understood so here we go again.

Hopkins has stated that although he is not under a contract with GBP that
    (1) He is a GBP fighter (Or more to the point: Pro-Schaefer)
    (2) He is a Showtime/Espinosa fighter
    (3) HBO is on the other side of the street
    (4) He can beat Kovalev because of Kovalev's brawler style
    (5) He considers Stevenson the more dangerous of the two because Stevenson's boxing ability is better.

Expect to see Hopkins-Stevenson at a theater near you, while Kovalev who likely be fighting no one of note, as usual.
