Yes Calzaghe's win against the far better Boxing version(If not athletic) of the P4P No.3 Hopkins is a beter win than the green Hopkins who took 2 attempts to see off Mercado. Without question.

And he wasnt unbeaten, but's that not important.

I answered the other part in my post above. Not to mention the other 20 times we have debated it.

and why do you think roy and hopkins got these high profile fights anyway while they ruled weak divisions and a meaningful fight for calzaghe never materialised?

Christ on a bike, like i said i AGREE with Hop's reason for pulling the plug. I fully understand, i dont know how else to say it.

But the fact of the matter is, an accusation laid at Calzaghe's feet of not pursuing the fight, or taking his "Chance" is false. He pursued, he got, he took the chance, and Hop pulled the plug.

Did he make it harder for Hop to pull the plug, No.

But why would he when the advances are met with a positive response? Unless told to before a contract was even discussed, let alone drawn up and reneged on. And it wasnt.

there's a correlation between talented fighters who don't crack the US market and get a solid international fanbase and talented fighters who do....

save the lame opening statement as if its taken for granted because you're just not willing to listen.

how can you defend calzaghe's role in this - which is the reason we're at odds, isn't it? - when he legitimately subscribed to frank warren's philosophy of milking fighters for wealth over testing themselves?

why do you think hatton left warren? and why do you think he got the floyd fight 2 years later?

something calzaghe never did under warren....

why do you think warren fighters fight 95% of their fights on hometurf against b grade opponents?

and why do you think warren rarely risks his fighters in the US?

"christ on a bike" won't help you with this one.

i know you're a solid poster, but you just don't want to listen to reason on this one.

Roy didnt til 2003. he had a high profile. not fights.

Because Tito and ODLH came into Hop's division. If 2 ATG MW's came into the SMW division during Calzaghe's reign, they would have fought, hence giving him that high profile fight.

There wasnt any. Well there was one. But he stayed where he was because he had bigger fights coming to him there. And when he did leave he skipped it because off bigger fights in the division above.

No Elite world class fighters campaigned in the SMW division during Calzaghe's reign.

I believe Calzaghe should have moved up in about 04, but again with hindsight would you swap Lacy and Kessler for Johnson and Tarver.

Calzaghe's SMW reign without the Ring,WBA,WBC and IBF belts would have been even worse.

oscar chose hopkins after shane and tito rejected rematches. he would never have done that if he was a relatively obscure fighter who hadn't made his mark on the international stage.

roy did have "a high profile" - and thats everything when you're regarded with that level of skill. he brought notoriety to the table because roy was hand s down the P4P fighter at that time.

i think it's very naaive of you to say that if great fighters came into calzaghe's divison he would have got those fights because i don't think you understand at all how the business side of boxing works.

do you really believe that if calzaghe had come over to the states and beaten ranked fighters at middle or light heavy - especially considering how weak the divisions were at that time - and i agree they really were, that it would have been any problem to get these fights?

his path was a lot easier than hatton's when he chased a mayweather fight but instead we're debating the same old story of another british fighter who never wanted to see how good he was and let his promoter make him rich in britain instead of testing himself.

why did tszyu get international recognition?

he came to the US and tersted himself.

why did hatton get international recognition?

he came to the US and tested himself.

why do british posters always end up having to defend calzaghe, witter, frcoh and so on......

because they NEVER came to the US and made an impact in their prime.

i have to log now so this is my last post today.

you're a good poster and i enjoy reading your posts and hammering this out with you, but i really don't under stand how anyone can't see this simple truth.

Im only defending Calzaghe's standpoint from the accusastion of he didnt take his chance at fighting Hop. That's all. Like I've said.

I am not defending Warren, or his policy, or Calzaghe's stay at home mindset or eagerness to go along with it.

But, the he didnt take his chance argument is bollocks, because whether he did enough to FORCE Hop into the fight is a completley different thing compared to him "Not talking his chance". That imply's it was offered to Calzaghe and he refused.

If I was him/or Warren, before I even entered serious negotiations or even before feeling them out about a possible matchup i would have done as you said, raised my profile stateside and at the very least maximise my own earning potenttial out of the matchup. He didnt.

if this was an argument on did Calzaghe do enough to leave Hopkins no choice but accept the fight, we wouldnt be having one.

If it was an argument on wheter Hop was right to pull the plug we wouldnt be having one.

But im saying, by luck, fluke, hook or crook the fight was ON for Calzaghe. So saying he didnt take his chance at fighting Hop is wrong. Calzaghe stature and worth or risk/reward didnt change from the momment Hop's camp initially agreed to the fight, to the pulling out. This cant be blamed on Calzaghe, nor should it be blamed on Hop, like i said.

Dont know what youre point is with the first one. You asked about the high profile fights regarding Hop and Roy and i said Hop wouldnt have had any if Tito and ODLH hadnt come up. And he wouldnt have had until Taylor.

I agree, i said he was high profile and i agree he was easily the best P4p fighter on the planet.

Maybe it is naieve of me considering the situation Froch finds himself in.

Well obviously he couldnt go to Middle but yes i think he could have got Tarver and Johnson in 04ish at LH, and i've said countless times i wish he had done.

Im not debating Calzaghe not chasing Jones. I never have. I wish he had chased him. I doubt it' would as straightforward getting him(Hattons mouth/actions in the ring didnt get Floyd in the ring, his money did). Calzaghe doesnt have that behind him. You get no argument he should have moved up sooner and gone for it.

Not me. I'll challenge statements that imply a falsehood. Nothing more.

Cheers, you too. The only thing we are in disagreement about as far as i can fathom is that i see a difference in the allegation of Calzaghe not taking his chance to fight Hopkins, as opposed to a fairer criticisim of he didnt Force Hop into the fight.

One suggests he turned down a fight while the other says he didnt back Hopkins into a corner and leave him no choice but to fight.

fanatasy fights like this arent just black and white as some people are making out. Its going to come down to subtleties which is all with the experienced guy; distance, footwork, lateral movement. I'd love to see chad dawson try and fire off those combinations at a target which is never constant and right in front of him. All the fighters he fought were right there hopkins wont be

Spot on. Chad's biggest downfall is that he cannot sell, and thats a fact. After a while on HBO I think people will start paying to see him, but that is going to take at the very least 1 year depending on how he fights and how often.

To be fair I do want to see a a Calzaghe v Dawson fight or a B-Hop v Dawson fight, but people on here need to remember how they were saying that Pavlik was going to KTFO everyone in sight, when his limitations as a 1-2 fighter was there to see. Also when the B-Hop v Pavlik fight was made they were saying it was a mismatch ; Pavlik was too young, too strong, too good, half god etc. etc. etc.

Now Dawson is the flavour of the year, but if he is going to do anything against fighters like B-Hop and Calzaghe he is going to have to learn how to fight for 3 minutes a round for 12 rounds, not 1.5 minutes a round for 12 rounds. Anyone that says that he will just knock them out, then please watch the Johnson fight, Johnson walked him down the whole fight and Dawson was lucky to get away with the victory.

That being said I do like Dawson (just like I like Pavlik) but at the moment he is not ready for B-Hop or Calzaghe, and thats no fault of his (just like Pavlik) its just he still needs to improve his game before he can win, otherwise Dawson is going to end up in the situation that Pavlik found himself in.

Who are you?, Bonoa's mother?

Tarver wasn't a legitimate Light heavyweight, huh? :huh

Bu the way, his fight with Pavlik was at a catch weight, wasn't even at light heavyweight as you obviously try to discredit that win in ******ed fashion.

We all know that even as crafty as Popkins is he will not pull it out.

Dawson is young, fast, and slick like the ripe Taylor and his stock isn't so high

but it's a match only real boxing fans would enjoy.

And people saying what he did to Pavlik will win him this fight is completely false.

Pavlik was a middleweight that was too green and let's not forget to simple for Pop.

Sorry but even tho I like Joe C who else is he going to fight? Tarver? Because I know he's not trying to face a prime Kessler type fighter in Dawson, NOT EVER.
