i'm a bit high so i'm not clear :hat i mean to say, i don't know if there was necessarily a linear or recognized champ at that time. until the don king tourney, i don't think anyone could call themselves true middleweight champion

You simply can't be regarded as the fighter with the best longevity when you've only had 60 odd fights.

He has kept a high standard over a very long time though, which is super rare.

He's the greatest old fighter in boxing history.

Never has a damn near 50 year old man been at the very top of his division before. He's a phenomenom. Probably once in a lifetime, if not the last of his kind we will ever see, ever. I can't imagine boxing at 48. It'd be a **** show.

Dinosaur-huggers will never admit it, but Moore has officially been surpassed as the greatest "old guy" in history. No one has ever been so relevant this deep into their forties before.

    Yup.

Its not close to me at this point. Hopkins is older, slower, more faded, and still beating top 10 fighters.

Hopkins gave Cloud a schooling that Jimmy Young would be proud of.

I have been watching boxing for over 50 years and Bernard hopkins defies the ravages of old age...He outthought, out boxed Cloud tonight in an amazing exhibition of ring science
and contempt for the number 48 years , a number associated with a rocking chair...
What boxer ever at 48 years had so much, movement and dexterity ? None that I know
    of...
One other obvservation...Todays top lightheavyweights, would be cannon fodder to most of the great lightheavyweights of the recent past. Against the Bob Fosters, Mathew Sadds, Michael Spinks, Ezzard Charles, Mongoose Archie Moore, Jimmy Bivins, Harold Johnson, Lloyd Marshall ,wonderful Billy Conn etc...So I believe that good as Bernard Hopkins is at 175 lbs, he would have retired long before the age of 48...
And the best Bernard Hopkins would have been soundly whipped, by the best Archie Moore at 175 lbs...Still kudos for Bernard Hopkins...

Good. Now turn that sad emoticon upside down, buddy. You're alive in the era in which Bernard Hopkins is boxing. This is a most joyous thing. :deal

Beating Cloud proved what? That he can beat unskilled slow fighter who are 30 years old but still have 20 or so bouts? Nothing impressive at all. George Foreman beat Shannon Briggs who is much better fighter when he was 48 too.
