I don't know why people care, frankly. Ibeabuchi is one of the more overrated HWs of all time. He had TWO, count 'em, TWO fights against decent fighters, one of which was a close decision that could have gone either way. It's questionable what he would have ultimately done BEFORE he went to prison. Now?? Fuggedaboutit.
I would agree. Unlike Tyson, I don't think he has that sort of universal recognition. Be like if Rydell Booker got out of jail or Jumbo Cummins....wouldn't matter, really. Unless, of course, he gets out and pulls it off. But I could do with wondering how Ike might have done if he got out, if wondering means he stays in jail. It's where he belongs.
if he got out he would never fight again if he was 30 he may but he aint hes 35 and would have nothing to offer besides, he would be too scared to leave his house in case the demons come back to take him away, crazy mofo.
Yeah, I'm not convinced he was as good as some people make out. And I'm another one who thought Tua won that fight. It was a great fight though.
Legal and ethical issues aside, I doubt we will see Ike in the ring again. He is most likely suffering from paranoid schizophrenia - in which case he will never be able to maintain mental control long enough to competitively participate in the sport.
who really cares, if anyone is hoping he can comeback and save the division then you're holding on too tight.
Ike was a little overratted, but down a young Chris Bryd faster than Wlad did, he also went toe to toe with a prime Tua and won the fight. He had under 20 fights when he beat both men, Ike had the power, size, skills, and chin to do some serious damage in the Heavyweight divsion, he was easily the best prospect in the late 90s, and I really believe if he wouldnt of went to jail he wouldve of least picked up a title in the 2000s.
You COULD be right, but we'll never know. What drives me crazy is all these people who think this guy would have been a destroyer, unified the titles, been an ATG, etc., etc. based, essentially, on ONE fight. It's nutty.
I agree, Zakman. Ike is one of those guys, like Tony Ayala Jr. to a lesser degree, who's reputation exceeds their actual accomplishments. Ike's wins over Byrd and Tua are impressive, but it's no guarantee he would have continued on to greatness. Like Punisher said, though, he looked like he had the tools.
I agree, he certainly had the tools to be a ATG though, but that doesnt always add up to an ATG type career. I do however think he would do well enough to pick up a title somewhere down the road, but as far as him being an all time great, we will never know.
The guy had real talent and potential but is SERIOUSLY MENTAL. I was a fan of that talent but disgusted by his use of it.
