  1. Is Ike Ibeabuchi's wins over Byrd and Tua equal to Tyson's best 2 wins?

I like Tyson's win over Spinks better.

    Nope.
Tyson beat prime Tucker and the already mentioned Spinks.

Plus a lot of people score the Ike vs Tua fight a draw or even a win for David, with the Tyson opponents there was no question who won in both fights.

Ikeabuchi definitely was not **** but yeah he is over rated because in the end of the day he did not archieve much and arguable got out boxed by David Tua.

But that KO over Chris Byrd was Wicked, maybe that is why he gets over rated so much.. dont know. He wasnt doing that good against Byrd either until he knocked Byrd head off from his shoulders.

The Ko over Byrd could be compared to Tysons over Mathis junior

    No...

Spinks, like it or not, was the Champion and expected to give Tyson a good match even with his inactivity and bad knees.

I think the Holmes win is criminally underrated. Holmes showed up in great shape and boxed very very well before Tyson cut off the ring and destroyed him.

Byrd is a really excellent win though, on par with Berbick or even better.

The Tua SD...I can't see a case for it being better than the Ruddock, Bonecrusher or Tucker wins. Ruddock and Tua are about the same level of fighter anyway.

Tyson clearly. But the question is not as ridiculous as it first sounds.

Ike from Tua fight would be nice W in Mike's resume.

Prime Ike vs post prison Mike. That's tough one.

Well, I didn't argue Tyson beat a "prime at his best" Holmes. I just argued its an underrated win and definetly better than Ike's knockout of the overly confident young Byrd and never was David tua. Holmes boxed very well for a man supposively in such poor shape and the way Tyson destroyed him was very impressive and unexpected..Holmes was a huge underdog but he was expected to be a stern test at best...and he was until Mike shut him down.

-NAH, nothing is the same as that. In an SI interview before Holmes/Tyson this gets put to rest...

"Ali was an old 38 with a body that was beaten up from too many wars—three with Joe Frazier, three with Ken Norton, two with Leon Spinks, one with George Foreman," Holmes is saying. "And he let his sparring partners beat him to death. All that rope-a-dope stuff. I had some hard fights, but no wars, not like Ali. I look in the mirror and say, Hey, you're a 38-year-old grandfather. Then I smile because I see a 22-year-old Larry Holmes looking back at me. Nobody has ever beat up on me and nobody is going to, especially Tyson-unless maybe somebody teaches that boy how to fight in the next couple of months."

So Holmes got a lot better fighting a few bums and then beating undefeated Ray Mercer 4 years later at 42 and quite a bit heavier?

Holmes has always been full of hot air to be honest. His lack of training and preparation for Tyson is often exaggerated. He did fight a 15 round exhibition fight where he and Barry Tompkins both in the interview agreed he looked sharp. He then entered training for a Tyson fight.

Holmes was in good shape for Tyson and didnt really show a lot rust to be honest. He was just outclassed by a younger faster better fighter. Tyson around this time in his career was just always gonna be too good for any version Larry Holmes.

As far as the thread topic I dont think there is any comparison. Tua was always a one dimensional fighter who struggled with a lot of opponents before finally stopping them late. Byrd was just a fair champion probably more comparable to Tyson beating a guy like Tubbs who Tyson beat a lot quicker.

Larry was never under 230 pounds after Tyson his entire comeback. He wasnt in awful shape.

Holmes always looked liked that though. About the same shape he was in for the Spinks fights...like 222-225.

I know Tyson clearly isn't a black African....I mean look that skull shape. He's clearly Eurasian.

Actually, it is ridiculous. And yet another example of how absurdly overrated Ibeabuchi is. Tyson fought a "who's who" of HW contenders from the 80s to the 90s, many of them current or former beltholders, and one ATG fighter in Spinks who he blew away in less than a round.

Ibeabuchi arguably beat a prime Tua in a 12 round war, and knocked out a blown up supermiddle in Byrd. Tua and Byrd would just be more Frank Brunos or Tony Tuckers on Tyson's resume. The only reason they stand out on Ibeabuchi's is because they're the only guys with a pulse he has wins over.

For what it's worth...the Holmes that fought Tyson would have also schooled Mercer. And Mercer is about on the same level of the fighters Byrd took to school like Tua. Take that for what it is...
