Remember the o'l contract that was offered to Fedor by the UFC that was VERY famous here on the internet..you know which one im talking about..

"we couldnt sign such a document"

    ya ya that one lol

so... is there any truth to the fact that Anderson has signed something simular? i dont think its a life contract but is it true he cant leave without losing or that UFC can automatically renew it or even scrap it whenever they please?

Is there any sort of details that are already out there about it?

You've got to consider where each fighter was career wise when they were offered these deals. Anderson while on a pretty good run vs B level opposition was still known as the guy who never quiet made it in Pride, he didnt really have much barginning power. Fedor on the other hand was at the very top of the HW division already earning big money, in a much stronger position.

Anyone who fights for a belt in the UFC(and increasing SF and other orgs) has a champs clause. As I said the difference is that all of them werent at the top of the sport when they signed it, much easier to get a rising star to sign something like that. Remember aswell that MMA doesnt currently fall under the Ali act which would I'd guess kill the champs clause and likely a few other areas of UFC deals.

It will be interesting to see whether the champs clause holds up if someone challanges it in court as Randy looked like he was going to.

hmm..so they do have champ clause..crazy..

believe it or not but it actually crossed my mind that silva wouldve taken a dive vs Griffin just so he can be free and go right to jones jr..

i mean it wasnt my prediction but it was something i thought about

the ufc are protecting their investmant. if they didn't then we wouldn't see the fights we see and fighters would fight each other only for money and give us **** undercards. basically, it would become boxing - a joke.

UFC offers terrible contracts. Only the dumb and unknown would dare to sign them. Fedor did the right thing.

That was a non title match so it wouldnt have worked.

What is really restrictive is that the clauses depend on who THEY consider the champ. A fighter cannot drop the belt as he could in boxing and be free of the clause if the promoter still wants him to be champ. That would I'd guess be illegal if the Ali etc was applied to MMA.

As far as Fedor goes the champs clause basically ment if he was sucessful then he wouldnt have any barginning power to get anything else he might want from the UFC, likeness rights, TV rights in Russia, ability to fight sambo whenever he wanted etc.

Another big factor was I'd guess the UFC's ability to cancill the contract after a loss. The deals that Affliction and SF were offering where garenteed on their ends to give a certain number of fights(why M1 is suing Affliction for cancilling the 3rd show), the UFC contract is not. Even an undefeated fighter isnt going to gamble that he stays undefeated when weighing up deals worth millions.

the ufc is just protecting themselves but should the fighters have to pay for that fact? it should be more of a give and take relationship the ufc is rich enough.

anderson silva wanted to retire when he was 35 is it possible if he does not fight any longer and walks away from all forms of combat sports.

from what I understand that was the problem with couture: he did want to fight anymore for the ufc but if he wanted to retire he could have, but he wanted to fight emelianenko that was his pickle.

    http://www.fighters.com/04/11/are-ufc-champ-anderson-silvas-title-defense-antics-on-purpose

in this article it purposes that silva is in the same predicament, wanting to fight roy jones but if he were to retire he would not be able to.

    heres a piece of it:

"Fighters.com has previously reported that Silva’s UFC contract is written such that if Silva retires as a UFC champion, he’s essentially perpetually bound to the UFC if he ever wants to fight again in any combat sport. So, even if Silva retired as UFC champion, White can veto a Silva-Jones boxing matchup. And, Silva can’t voluntarily vacate his title under his contract, nor can he practically throw a fight without ruining his reputation and any potential Silva-Jones boxing match. Silva has to legitimately lose at middleweight before he could retire and box Jones, but a loss would also kaybash the Silva-Jones matchup. Catch-22!

Fighters.com thinks Silva’s antics in his last three title defenses is Silva’s plea to White to let him vacate the 185-pound title so he can retire and box Jones."

Im not sure if this is the case, that silva is playing games to leverage the ufc in letting him go (or at least fight outside the ufc) but I guess it is possible.
