That depends. Are James DeGale, Anthony Dirrell, and Badou Jack all refusing to fight Andre Ward? Golovkin has to take lower class opponents because Quillin, Cotto, and Alvarez refuse to fight him.

This is also Wards first fight at full 175.

And this guy arguably beat the current WBC SMW champ, a few years ago.

Its not a "farce". It is what it is. A stay busy fight

 

So will ward fight a top 10 in LHW or just get a shot..

Monroe is slightly better than Brandt. He is #13 boxrec, while Brand is #21. The reason is that Monroe had better wins.

The most important differences were already mentioned:
- Brandt has to move up
- He has only 3 weeks to train
- He is 38

Agreed. I would also point out that GGG (unlike WArd right now) was NOT a top 5 P4P fighter when he fought Adama AND had fought four times in the past 12 months. Ward has nothing but excuses...
Willing to go to Wembley ... but not Nottingham? (so is he afraid of hometown cooking? a bit hypocritical, even though Ward never needed it)
He won't go down 4 lbs to fight GGG, but he'll ask Paul Smith, Murdoch and those other 2 speedbags to go up in weight?

Look, GGG should have manned up and went to 168...but at least he legitimately has money fights at 160. Ward on the other hand has next to nothing.

 

He's worse on an absolute basis, and the circumstances around it make it worse on top of it.

An active fighter fighting those kinds of easier fights at their natural weight classes on smaller platforms is one thing. A fighter who isn't active, fighting on the 2nd biggest PPV of the year, pulling a worse kind of fighter up a division is another entirely.

To put it in perspective, if Golovkin pulled up the 21st rated Boxrec guy from the division below (Boxrec isn't perfect, but it'll do the job for this example), we'd be seeing him fight Alfonso Gomez on PPV.

That's not pretty no matter how you slice it. Ward should've at least targeted a 175 pound journeyman if he was looking to get used to the size and strength of light heavyweights.

ward is taking a page out of ggg's playbook...fight a buncha bums and look spectacular and watch the hype machine go into overdrive.

The difference is, ward has already proven himself to be the best smw of thiis and any other generation....ggg aint even fought a top 10 - worthy guy yet.
