Is it a foregone conclusion that Beterbiev walks through Kovalev?

From where I was sitting it seemed to me that old boy Gvodzyk had a bit of success tagging up Beterbiev at long range....even stopped him in his tracks once that i remember.

It also seems to me that Kovalev is a far superior fighter from long range, the big question to me is could he avoid the clinches ? Thats where he had so much trouble with Ward and where Beterbiev is so dangerous

This is the sport of boxing. Therefore, the answer is an emphatic "No".

Anything can happen with that much firepower present in a fight.

Ward hurt him badly with a right hand. I shudder to think what an extra beefy right hand from Beterbiev would do.

I like Kovalev and I think he would have beaten Beterbiev prime for prime. This version is a couple of bus stops away from that one. Sad to say, I am 80% sure Beterbiev beats him nowadays and probably by KO. Kovalev's conditioning hasn't been what it should be for some time now.

I can see some of those body straights making current Kovalev vomit.

Artur also very much impressed me with how he adapted to Gvozdyk's lead hand. Nothing of consequence was really landing towards the end. He'd do the same to current Kovalev, and Kovalev doesn't have the trigger on his right anymore to threaten and stop counters to said lead.

Even if he fights a guy like Karpency next, there isn't a 100% guarantee he wins, let alone someone like Kovalev.
But I guess the consensus is that he walks right trough Kova at this point.

Yes, it a foregone conclusion at this point.

Prime Kov might destroy him coming in. Not the current version.

Bivol is potentially the only one who can hang with him....and i havent seen enough of Bivol to know that for certain.

    Agreed.

I don't think Bivol has sufficient power. Pity because he does an awful lot right.

Prime Kovalev has a good case against Beterbiev. This one on the decline I'm less sure of, but I'd still be down as **** to see it.

Beterbiev will be weary of Kovalevs straight right hand unlike the disrespect he showed vs Gvodzyk power.

I'd would favor Beterbiev at this point with his one punch power and his chin looking pretty durable last time out. Kovalev's power on the other hand hasn't looked as explosive in recent fights and clearly he can be badly hurt. That being said Kovalev will have a good deal of success at range and if he catches Beterbiev at range he certainly has a punchers chance of getting him out of there.

This version of Kovalev couldn't drop or badly hurt Mikhalkin

Ditto for Alvarez in both their fights (a combined 18 rounds of action)

He couldn't drop or hurt Ward in the rematch after wobbling him down to his soul with a jab and dropping him in a praying position with a right hand in their first encounter

And he couldn't drop or hurt Yarde until the later's gas tanks ran dry

The only opponent Kovalev has dropped and badly hurt in his last six fights as a result of his power is Shabranskyy who has gone on to prove to have shaky whiskers

If you think any of these fighter's backs don't see the canvas, last as long as they did, or manage to evade getting badly hurt vs a prime Krusher then you better pass that blunt over here so I can have a toke on it because you got yourself some real grade A **** right there (FTR, I don't smoke :D). Prime Kov either dropped or badly hurt pretty much everyone he shared a ring with sans one or possibly two and he brutally stopped most of them and that includes some of the toughest most iron-jawed SOBs in the game.

I think so. Beterbiev has so much advantages over him at this stage. He seems to be a good body puncher too.

Kovalev would get beat into retirement.
