Is It A Miracle That Beterbiev and Gvozdyk Actually Fought Each Other?

How often do we see two A level fighters in their primes get in the ring together? It almost never happens in today's boxing landscape. We go in some instances, years in boxing before getting a fight like this. A fight like this does not happen every year.

And I must say, they both showed why fighters do not take risks. Neither man got a significant payday. Neither man saw his drawing power increase much. The winner didn't have much in the way of spoils coming his way. Beterbiev, even after stopping Gvozdyk, cannot even crack most mainstream publications top 10 p4p. So, if you KO an elite fighter in their prime and still can't get rated then what can you do? It comes down to politics I suppose. If you can't draw you can't get rated.

And as for Gvozdyk. Well, what's in it for the loser? For one you're 0 goes. And secondly, the fight can take a lot out of you mentally and physically.

But yes getting back to Beterbiev and the spoils point. Many fighters and promotors are asking themselves what is the point of taking on such a gigantic risk for such little return?

Beterbiev could have been marketed as the next Golovkin but sadly, he teamed up with Top Rank who failed to promote him properly.

He has that Khabib vibe and there is a huge untapped fanbase there ready to fill stadiums and pay good money.

If he was with DAZN he would be filling Middle East stadiums and knocking Americans out for fun.

It’s funny you mention this! I was thinking just the other day “Man it’s crazy those two fought right away and with no bull**** involved!”

At the time, Artur and The Nail were considered THE GUYS at 175. I wish ALL big fights were made like these two went about it.

100% agreed. It's why Beterbiev/Bivol likely doesn't happen there isn't the money in the fight to make it worth while for either fighter. But if it does happen then kudos to both fighters choosing legacy over preserving their 0's and kudos to their promoters for making it happen when it's in their best interests to advise against this.

I get what your saying we expect fighters to fight the best but reality is that doesn't happen all the time and usually only when there's enough money on the table. This could have been a fight that was talked about for years perhaps even til now but instead both risked it all in the hope a victory would elevate them and make them more popular, that didn't happen and it's likely why we might not see Beterbiev/Bivol. In the end boxing is a business.

It's a clue Bivol and team have been avoiding Beterbiev.
Does Beterbiev, a guy who basically crushes everyone, strike anybody as someone who is going to duck? It's just as ridiculous as the narrative Golovkin was doing that.
Usually the lighter punchers are the ones who duck in these match-ups because they're set to take more damage.

All the casuals discredited the win while Spence was put on all American publications top 10 after beating a damaged Kell Brook.

Yeah, Beterbiev had a goal to unify no matter what, and Gvodzyk had that hype after he beat Stevenson, he was thinking he could stop Beterbiev.

People were thinking about Beterbiev like a very limited boxer with just punching power. Bookies were delusional as well

Team Bivol is not thinking about fighting Beterbiev after that fight, they know what will happen and everyone should call out Bivol for ducking for so many years.

Beterbiev is going to be 40, who knows how much long he is going to last he is really in no drivers seat to be calling shots as good a fighter as he is, and I’m a big fan. Gvod losing really doesn’t hurt his stock, either.

Top fighters fight eachother more than fans think, or aren’t paying attention.
