Is it a misperception, or do the fighters of the past look less weight drained????

I was recently looking over my collection of boxing videos from the sixtees and seventees, watching some benvenuti, monzon, valdez, griffith etc fights.........and looking at benvenuti for example, he looked so healthy. so natural on his weight.

he was 5ยด11 and the 160 pounds looked like his normal walking around weight.

    same with monzon or valdez.

is it just a misperception on my part, or have any of you thought the same thing???

No it's not. They didn't weight drain as much as they do now. That's the reason they could fight so often as they did. A fighter from today would be too weak to fight 1-2 times a month.
