Walls I could go allong with up to a point though I think he came closer to getting a title fight than either Sys or Neuhaus.

Satterfield I can't go allong with. People who criticise Satterfield for being inconsistant don't look at the level of competition he fought or the schedule he was fighting to.

If you want to find a lineal heavyweight champion who was matched against a similar number of currently ranked oponents you have only two options and their names are Barrows and Clay. If you don't have their level of talent you are going to pay for fighting that level of opposition.

 

Satterfield would have been a lot more consistant if he had trained regularly ,he was a party boy.

 

Sure but even if he hadn't been he was on a hiding to nothing with that schedule.

Fighters like Satterfield often end up wrecking their careers because they take fights against dangerous oponents that do not serve their career interests because they need the money.

They end up with an impresive list of names on their record but no title fight.

 

Satterfield has an impressive list of opponents but not of victories. Best wins at heavy? a split over Johnson and wins over Baker and an equally erratic Valdez?
BTW at a guess Patterson, Holyfield, Holmes, Lewis, Bivins, maybe even Ruiz(dangerous territory!) fought as many rated HW's.

 

Just guessing through boxrec I think Patterson fought 22 fights against rated hw's, Holmes 27, Holy 23, Lewis only 20, Bivins would need more detailedr esearch than i have time for right now, poor Ruiz about 14 but I'm far from sure that Bob topped twenty? Am I missing something here?

Patterson?? I dont recall him fighting the top guys in his title rein.

Just because Patterson started fighting top guys AFTER his rein should not give him any bouns imo in regards to ATG rankings.

No comment on his all-time record at all, just a reply to Janitors claim on Satterfields number of fights against top 10 rated hw's at the time of their fights.

 

Janitor, I can only come up with 9 definite and three possible fights by Satterfield against a THEN CURRENTLY RATED TOP 10 HW-where are you getting thirty?

Juan Gomez was 6'3" with an 80+" reach. He would be the biggest ranked fighter on the list, even if he was 215 pounds.

Chagaev could not even make a decent sparring partner for Marciano? atsch While chagaev didn't look good vs Wlad, there wasn't a single fighter like that on the presented 50's list. I think if Chagaev was say matched up vs past their prime light heavies or cruisers, he produce some Rocky Marciano like knockouts too.

 

Chagaev is listed as 6' 1in , he scaled 224 3/4 for Wlad,but he has been up top 236lbs, he is 30 and will not improve he is on the way down.
He swallowed it against Wlad, a disgrace.

John Ruiz is 37 ,the fact that he is still in the top ten tells everyone how dire it is.
Juan Carlos Gomez is 35 and as late as 27 he was scaling 187 for a fight.
A moderate Cruiserweight Champ and a poor heavyweight .
He is rated because there is so little about .
Valuev is 35 seems hard to hurt ,but himself has no power ,only a jab, a totally shot Holyfield gave him hell.When he began people scoffed at him ,but with the division ,being so poor he won a title!
Arreola weighed 255lbs for his fat fest with a 271 lbs Mcline ,who came out of retirement for a pension pay day.
Chagaev has kod NO ONE OF ANY NOTE a tko over the moderate Micheal Sprott is the best he can muster,and you think he would amass Marciano like kos in the 50's? How come he hasnt done it in this decade?

Your are correct other then the klitchko brothers there are no standouts. Haye Chambers and povetkin are the only contenders who might go somewhere.
