Is it a weak era when you have names and talents like this?

Or, perhaps the Klitschko's are simply dominant fighters that prevent others from standing out.

Chagaev simply got whacked hard multiple times, and because he lacked the size, and reach, could not offer much.

By the way, I'd like to see you list of half of today's top ten that should lose 30 pounds.

And Joe Louis was also 37 when he was rated. Ruiz is only rated #9 or 10th, because the Klitschko's keep knocking guys out.

Lame. Gomez won a string of fights in a row. He defeated a top ten man in Virchis with ease, and out boxed everyone in front of him, save one fluke KO.

I agree Holyfield won the fight. In fact, that was my prediction based on styles.

Since boxing has 17 weight divisions, the odds of one division producing the fight of the year are rather long. I do think Brewster vs Lyhaovich was worthy of the fight of the year.

A duplicate question, however Calvin Brock did win KO of the year a few years back.

Maybe its because Rocky was flawed, but had a lot of heart. Those type of fighters often product great fights. I think Wlad vs Chalres or Moore would be a boring blow out win for Wlad.

I agree Chambers ,if he keeps the lard off might win a few ,but he seems ,I say seems as I havent seen much of him,to lack top end power.

Povetkin ,is a work in progress ,I hope he comes through we shall see.

Haye ,? well there are questions about his chin ,but he comes to fight ,and has the speed and artillery to make things interesting , which we are in dire need of with the big boys.I would like to see him jump on Wlad and use a lot of lateral movement ,as Leonard did with Hearns, press the tall man ,and his first instinct is to back pedal ,I think he is gunshy.

Vitali is slower , stiffer and more ponderous with his shots ,but he controls the range very well,he takes a better shot than his younger brother ,and for that reason I think Haye has his best chance against Wlad.IF ,and it is a big if ,Haye can take Wlad's power and still fire back ,I think Wlad will panic and **** himself.

Gomez won a string of fights against NOBODIES,Virchis NEVER BEAT ANYONE he is a nobody and wont ever be a SOMEBODY
Brewster is slow as molasses and one dimensional he pads in looking to land that big left, a decent boxer should jab his face off.
Lychovitch bored the arse off the world in his snoozer against Briggs and should be locked up for impersonating a fighter.
You say Chagaev would score Marciano type kos over the 50's opponents ,WHY? He cant score them over the **** he fights now.Who has he EVER KOd WHO IS EVEN REASONABLY GOOD?
TAKE THE BROTHERS GRIMM OUT OF THE EQUATION ,AND THE DIVISION STINKS ,END OF STORY.

Back to the 50's Satterfield fought rated top 10 hw's Joey Maxim, Rex Layne, Clarence Henry, Ez Charles, Nino Valdez, John Holman, Harold Carter 2 and 3, and John Summerlin. Bob Baker, Lee Oma 2, and Lee Oma 1 are outside possibilities. Only wins over Valdez and Summerlin. Along way from 30 and a lot less than the guys I listed.

You have not listed any of his fights against middleweights and light heavyweights which were included in the statistic I quoted.

I would add that there are a couple more heavyweights who might possibly have made the list such as Marty Marshall and Bob Amos.

Janitor "If you want to find a lineal heavyweight champion who was matched against a similar number of currently ranked oponents you have only two options and their names are Barrows and Clay. If you don't have their level of talent you are going to pay for fighting that level of opposition."
Indeed you are probably correct if you include l/h and middleweight rated fighters such as Johnson, Moore etc.
I must say though that I felt you meant HW's. Holyfield, Patterson, go up by this criterea and someone like Greb probably fought more rated fighters than the lot of 'em to-gether!
ps Dont think Amos or Marshall rated at the time of the Satterfield fights if ever.
As I said befre the 50's guys did well v's the coming 6'0s fighters and they in turn did well aganst 70's opposition. Think Summerlin, H.Johnson, Baker etc and see Machen, Folley, Chuvalo doing well against Bonavena, Quarry, Cooper, Terrell etc who did well against Bugner, Lyle, Middleton, Garcia et al. It is not difficult to make a case for 1950-55 second tier heavys holding their own with the equivalent 60's or 70's fighters.

Boxing is global these days, so the little pond is earth. :thumbsup

If you look back on history, contemporary histroains have been questioning the talent pool in the heavyweight division since the 1930's.

Besides the Klitschko's and possibly Haye, there's no other Heavyweight that has any serious talent that is ready to step up. This division is not only the worst in Boxing, but it's the worst the division has ever been.

Well is is certainly very poor imo,but if you admit that you take some of the glory away from the Klits ,or at least Mendoza thinks you do, hence his ,tortuous attempts to blow up their pitiful challengers.

    Contempoary [histroains]?
Just because the division is populated by East European fighters who have winning records against 3 rd rated Americans and old men doesnt make it stronger.
Sullivan defended his title in France against an Englishman.Plus a transplanted Irishman in the States.
Corbett defended against an Englishman,a naturalised Aussie who then took out American citizenship.

Jeffries beat Fitz ,an Englishman who boxed around the world.
    Hart lost to a Canadian.
Burns defended in London x2,Dublin against an Irishman ,Paris x2against an Aussie and an Englishman, and Australia against an Aussie and an American.
Johnson defended in Paris x2,and Cuba.
Dempsey defended against an ,Argentinian, and a Frenchman.
Tunney ,in only 2 defences managed to make one of them against a New Zealander.
A German held the crown,he lost it to an American who lost it to an Italian, one of whose defences was against a Spaniard .
Louis ,defended against a German ,and a Chilean.
This only takes us up to the years immediately after WW11 !
Boxing has ALLWAYS BEEN GLOBAL,and the pond used to be considerably bigger.
When was the last time a Swede ,a Uraguyan, a Frenchman ,a Belgian,a Canadian,a born in the country, German,or a Puerto Rican contested for the crown?

Nino Valdes was such an idiot. Marciano wanted to fight him as his last fight before retirement, but Valdes decided to fight the light heavyweight champ Archie Moore first, and was owned. Since Valdes had lost credibility, Marciano justed wanted to retire, but then Archie started calling him out in the newspapers and stalking him at the golf course, so Rocky had to go back to the training camp and get ready to fight Moore.
