With Gennady Golovkin's boxing career coming to an end, I've been re-watching a lot of his fights lately.

I'm curious to everyone's opinion if his name belongs on the same list with the all time greats throughout boxing history.

GGG is a tremendous fighter, beatifull career, achieved a lot, fought everyone available.

Still would love to see him unify vs Charlo next. A nice way to end it.

Not his fault that Martinez, Cotto, Sturm, Froch, Quillin, Chavez, Ward, Pavlik, Abraham, and possibly Pirog, all avoided him.

Not for me. A great fighter but not enough wins over top fighters. Not all of that is his fault but it is what it is. I think prime for prime he could hang with any middleweight in history, but that is down to opinion. Being classed as an all time great should come down to your record and I do not think ggg has one worthy of that.

Of course his name belongs there! His record for the most title defenses at 160 alone puts his name there. And on a H2H basis… PRIME Triple G is arguably top 5 all time at middleweight.

Also throw in his monster record in the amateurs… Hell yeah his name belongs there!

His defense record is bogus and you know it. However he definitely belongs on that list especially considering Bernard Hopkins is there and when comparing their resumes at 160 it’s not much different tbh. Hopkins biggest wins at MW is Trinidad and Oscar both whom moved up from multiple divisions. GGG should have a win over prime Canelo lMO. When considering that I feel that if Hopkins is there then GGG belongs there.

The guy was too high risk low reward for this era would of been great to see him in the late 90s early 00s when fighters actually fought each other instead of waiting for them to get old

Huge fan of GGG, but no. His resume isn't that good. And its not all his fault because he didn't even debut in the USA until he was 30 years old. We missed out on his real prime 25 - 30.

No. He's not a top 100 or 150 ATG and isn't a top 10 ATG at MW. He was never in the running for the best fighter of his generation, has a horrible resume and just hasn't done enough. I compare him more to guys like Pong Wonjongkam, Henry Maske, Dariusz Michalczewski, and Chris John. Guys with historic defenses in their weight class who just haven't done enough to enter into the upper echelon of boxing history.

GGG is a victim of not having a good promoter. He should have and probably could have achieved more.

Unfortunately GGG's resume doesn't warrant him being an ATG.

He is a great middleweight champion that had 20 title defenses 18 by KO. If he wasn't robbed of his 2 career defining wins he would still be undefeated middleweight champ right now with 24 title defenses 20 by KO. His only loss being to Canelo in the 3rd fight by points at 40 years old, while going up challenging for the undisputed supermiddle weight title. He has all time great durability as well to this point. In his prime, head to head he could hang with any middleweight in history.
