I don't like this fight with paqiaou one bit... Paqiaou looked like Apollo Creed in his last 2 fights
I'm a bit casual on Thurman. I think I've only seen him fight once and it was against fairly mediocre opposition in Danny Garcia, over two years ago, and not heard much from him since. Does he have some career defining dazzling victories I should look back on to gauge his level?
Not that his word is gospel or anything, but, for a compass guide: he was pretty objective about Pacquiao (compared with most journalists, downright reticent to jump the gun in anointing him) and even Bert Sugar placed him within 25 as of the Clottey fight. That was nine years ago, with only more laurels added since - and, yes, the PBF, JMM IV, and Horn losses but IMO those don't really damage his legacy all that much considering how deep into his career and the heights already climbed.
At his peak before his hiatus I vowed to never doubt the guy again, you should see his fight against Porter as it was a real masterclass in how to win on the inside imo. Alas his last fight,he looked poor imo.
Danny Garcia, while I'm no fan of his, the guy's got one of the better resumes in the sport, he's anything but mediocre. Just because he lost to Porter and Thurman, that doesn't somehow mean he's lesser than, it means they're slightly better. Which means they're really good. Granted, Danny does have some questionable decisions that have gone in his direction, still... wins over Matthysse, Khan, Guerrero, Herrera* Peterson* Granados, Moralesx2, Rios, Malignaggi, Judah, Holt, Campbell and Theophane are nothing to sneeze at. Point is.... Thurman is as solid as they come.
Bert Sugar. You literally only needed to sustain your attention span until later in that very sentence.
Where'd you get that idea? He's a huge Kovalev, Inoue, Vazquez, Tapia, Mijares and Golovkin fanboy. They're not what I'd call slick and black.
