You've just summed up why Jones should never rank higher than Mayweather.

Nope. Roy not only arguable in the discussion for GOAT, he also was the 1st man in 50 YEARS to win a heavyweight title and a Middle weight title. Floyd was an ATG, no doubt. But he also was "managed" to keep that 0 the last several years of his career. Furthermore, there's fighters in their prime that I believe beat him, maybe even handily, Duran, Leonard and Robinson. Prime Manny as well I believe.

Hard to pick who can beat a prime RJJ in any era IMO. The speed and power nexus he had just didn't exist in too many other fighters like it did in him IMO.

Plenty of fighters are considered ATGs without travelling did Mayweather ever travel to someone's backyard ?

Michalczewski had the Lineal title yes but he was certainly not considered "the man" by the vast majority RJJ was.

RJJ was a huge star and P4P king I don't see why RJJ is the only one to take the sole blame for the fight not happening. Why didn't Michalczewski not want to travel either and earn his biggest pay day ?

The fact is neither were willing to travel as I said it's a stalemate and neither fighter takes more blame than the other.

Mayweather was undefeated. for 51 fights I think?

Roy Jones Jr was something to behold in his time, When Felix Trinidad looked indestructible, I was saying he would be until he faced Roy Jones Jr. Turns out I was both right and wrong. I did not see Bernard Hopkins beating Tito. But Jones ultimately beat him too.

Ultimately, they both had their moment when they looked unbeatable. I think Mayweather has to rank in the top 20 of all time but Jones isnt that much fair....Jones is near Salvador Sanchez career-wise, IMO,

Roy was an athletic freak in his prime he did things I've never seen before and probably won't see it again. In terms of boxing skill level Mayweather was almost flawless he was a genius in the ring. Both are ATGS and both are amongst the best I've ever seen. I rank Floyd higher cause he had the better career and he has a deeper resume but I have no issue with those who rank Roy higher.

How many guys have been lineal at 130 and 154? And how much is beating John Ruiz really worth?

You don’t get points awarded for what you probably would have done.

I agree with you on Corrales, but Toney’s state, though his fault, still takes some shine off things.

What if the day before a fight I was doing something reckless & broke my hand? Would you beating me still be victory over a prime opponent? Maybe they were in their prime, but not in top condition on fight day does impact the value of the outcome, even if it’s not the winners fault.

Nothing says managed like targeting Ruiz for a belt & then exclaiming you’re the first man in fifty years to do what Jones did. Parlour trick personified.

Cannot believe I’m having to defend Mayweather in a thread.

& that’s in no way Jones’ fault, & that’s why we must mitigate how much we take away from him. He won easily. But equally, we cannot pretend it’s totally a win over prime Toney.

No I agree that it wasn't the best version of Toney but what I'm saying is Toney was considered in his prime at the time. But like I said regarding Toney not being in the best of shape that's not really an excuse for me because that's on him.

As for breaking your hand like I said I take certain factors into account like legitimate injuries or a fighter being past their prime as legitimate excuses. But if a fighter is in their prime and doesn't come into a big championship fight in shape that's not an excuse for me because that's their fault.

I certainly agree it’s no excuse. We may disagree however on whether it potentially can take away from the winning fighter.
