Boxing with high blood pressure like Luis Ortiz has been doing has been stated by medical professionals, athletic commisions, and doctors to be actually quite dangerous. According to medical research today; you should not do the following, as they can raise your blood pressure to dangerous levels for a short period of time: Lift heavy weights without supervision from a qualified exercise trainer, and vigorous short bursts of exercise like boxing or squash. There are two main types of physical activity: aerobic (or dynamic) and isometric (or static) exercise. Our bodies react differently to different types of exercise. Boxing to a large degree involves isometric oriented exercises, but burst type of exercise can raise blood pressure during exercise. This burst can result in rapid changes in blood pressure which places severe strain on the heart and blood vessels. This form of activity involves a sustained contraction of one set of muscles. As a result, the heart beats harder, as only a small number of muscles are being used. This results in a decreased space for the blood to flow in. This results in a rapid rise in blood pressure, extra strain on the heart and blood vessels, and highly increased risk. According to Dr. Adam Balogh - World Boxing Federation (WBF) Medical Advisor: (xv) Blood Pressure: To be average for age. Any boxer with a systolic pressure over one hundred fifty (150) or a diastolic pressure above ninety (90) is suspect and should have a special investigation.
If on effective meds then you should be fine, it is the uncontrolled that are at risk of cerebral or cardiac issues. If i was Ortiz i would be concerned that as a athlete i had hypertension in the first place, though of course hypertension is a side effect of steroids, like nandrolone.
Yes! And it’s dangerous for any 50 year old to be fighting championship fights off his meds with high BP!
Of course any health issue is a negative, having been knocked out or concussed means you have ruined brain cells/ possibly weakened blood vessels in the brain, but after accepted period of time a fighter can fight again after checks. We can't forget that prior to Clay vs Liston, that Clay had a blood pressure of 200 over 100 and with a pulse of 120, now that is stroke/heart attack territory, ok that was down to Clays manic hysterics and returned to normal a while after, so no doubt Ortiz BP and pulse etc were checked and rechecked and found to be ok.
Yes. That's why we be crooks cleared him to fight unlike with povetkin We be crooks love deontay and keep him safe They saw luis ortiz medical reports and were like hahahaha this guy is seriously ill, lets sanction him vs deontay
Your blood pressure goes through the roof with any vigorous exercise, boxing included. If you're an athlete with high blood pressure but no heart conditon, it may be okay to box because your blood pressure would only rise to a normal level for atheletics, rather than to a dangerous level.
Actually, the NYSAC almost stopped the fight because his BP levels were so high. This was literally a day before the match.
I think they didn't clear him until like 5 minutes before the fight. They even brought in a backup... Martin iirc?
If not for Haymon a 50 year old man, who is sick, on two different blood pressure meds, would never have been allowed to have fought!
