I don't think so. The way this man faught and how consistantly he faught will never happen in this sport again. Robinson was so ahead of his time and so sharp by how active he was the man in his prime was damn near unbeatable.

The regulations mean **** all really. If you are (marginally) healthy you can fight. I mean you could fight 12x a year easily today, people still do it. Danny Jacobs did it in 2008. The problem isnt the regulations the problem is boxing isnt for hard men like it used to be. I mean one title fight can almost make your career now. The money and the PPV have ruined the "prize fighting" term entirely.

You used to have to fight to get paid and fight regularly. Its just not the case today. This is why these guys like SRR, Greb, Moore, Langford on and on deserve their just ranking. In all honesty, fighters today are pussies compared to these guys, they wont even fight when less than 100% and quit at the first sign of despair.

Look at victor Ortiz, I cant fight with these guy im getting beat up:crybby What a ****ing baby and a disgrace to the sport.

Number of fights is overrated. A lot of the fighters they fought were bums...think about it, could you find a top 5 fighter around WW for Floyd or Pac to fight every 2 weeks? you couldnt because there arent enough...like Chavez, SRR record has plenty of crap fighters...although he fought just about every top fighter for over a decade.

With how often they fight these days, they cant really completely clean out as SRR did so in that respect they cant be as great. They can however accomplish more and be greater that way...if Pac were to beat PBF, Mosley and then go on to JMW and clean it out taking Spinks & PTP he would be in contention.

A lot of people have ALi at 2, I rate Ali very highly but if he wasnt a HW and wasnt as popular as he was, I dont think he would be anywhere near that high. He beat 3 great fighters close enough to their prime(1 arguably took a dive), there are plenty of other fighters in the lower divisions who could say that..

Yes, it is possible. However, no current fighter will pass Robinson's resume. Or Harry Greb's resume for that matter.

it's like asking if there will ever be a better baseball player than Babe Ruth. It's just a question that cannot be answered.

Yes but you are going to have people of the past favor SRR more.

Pac is easily arguable the greatest fighter ever.

If he beats Floyd he easily locks it up as the greatest fighter ever.

Look at what Pac did in 2008 and 2009. If he has 3 or 4 more amazing years like that (or even better), he'll only be about 34 years old, and he can definately reach that level. Can you imagine if he was fighter of the year in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012?

So yes, it CAN happen. But it won't. Reports are he made 23 million in his fight against Cotto. He'll probably make near 40 million against Floyd. Also, he wants to go into politics. I don't see him as a fighter anymore in 2011

Greatest ever? He would have to beat more than just Floyd. Maybe if he beats Floyd, Berto, Mosley, Williams, and 2 or 3 other future big names who go on to become greats tehmselves.

It is amazing Doylexxx but do you really think Manny will be seen, known and recognized as the all time best P4P b/c he beat anther great in Floyd? I mean it will do a lot for Manny's legacy but we are talking about Ray Robinson!! He's done it all against everyone who was anyone from WW to Lt HW and he beat most of them even past his best days as a prize fighter.

Your not likely a boxer or have ever stepped into the ring with this kinda comment. Durability and toughness (number of fights) should definitely factor into greatness. Do you know much harder these guys were even if fighting guys that were less talented?

Boxing is a very rough sport and it used to be a lot rougher without the ref completely protecting guys. TKO's were not the norm and refs didnt jump right in to stop fights. You didnt have time for cuts to heal, for muscle strains to heal. You would have to fight cut and bruised against guys who would be pumped up to have a shot at a legit champ. It takes a LOT more balls and toughness to fight 10x a year rather than 1,2,3 times that fighters now fight. I mean maybe some of yuo guys are satisfied with a boxer fighting that infrequently, but I am not. If a guy fights 3x a year anymore he is considered to be busy and that is just ridiculous.

I believe it's always possible but extremely unlikely. Like hitting the multi-million lottery three times in one year kind of unlikely. He is a six-time linear champ in an extraordinarily tough era when they had 15-rounders. He's arguably the greatest welterweight and also one of the top middleweights of all time. There are great achievements by a lot of fighters, Pacquiao, SRL, etc, that deserve an argument- But when you stay up there at world class that long with that much success...Who today even wants to be the linear champion of one or more divisions six times? Forget the quality of opposition for a second, who even goes after that? These modern guys, if they said, forget the ABC belts, and went after the linear champion six successful times...I don't see anybody doing that. Then, of course the quality of opposition and number of fights. Ray Robinson, in my opinion will not likely be surpassed unless we hit another golden age of boxing and sadly, it's not likely.
