    get rated under sal sanchez....
i mean, he was way before my time but i've seen every footage possible and no doubt he was a great fighter....but the reality is that he died way too soon to be mentioned as a favorite over "our" mexicans of today like barrera, morales and marquez.......****, some even rate him over chavez which IMO is ****en insane.....i love the whole "Mystery" behind sanchez and how he would've killed manny, erik and barrera the same night, but the truth is we will never know.....his wbc warpath started with lil red lopez at 21yrs old, continued with many great fighters like bazooka and ended with azumah nelson at 23 years old, all within 2 ****en years :admin

so i guess my question is this...does his 2 year manslaughter at featherweight deserve a notch over a decade of 3 divisions and many great fights that jmm, barrera and morales have....and is it fair to them to automatically assume that sanchez "would've" done a lot more damage if he would've never died ?????

    discuss :good

I think we saw enough in those two years to make him a clear favorite over the names you just mentioned.

I agree with Addie. In those 2 years Sal accomplished alot, and quite honestly showed skills superior to those of the three amigos, which is saying alot for someone who died at the age of 23. Only Chavez and Olivares (slightly) surpass him out of the mexicans IMO.

true....great ****en names to have on his resume, but many would argue bazooka was a bit passed it, and azumah was too green....

what do you say about that

I say you have a point about Azumah Nelson, but Gomez was a huge favorite ahead of the Sanchez fight and had showed zero signs of fading in his previous bouts. He wasn't that great of a fighter at 126lbs, but who's to say that's only because he took a beating at the hands of Sanchez? Few fighters are same after that kind of defeat.

I only rank Chavez above Sanchez in a P4P sense.

Only the ricans will tell you Bazooka was "passed it". Gomez was dead in his prime, had looked excellent in his previous encounters, was 32-0-1 (32 ****in' KOs) and was the heavy favorite to win. After the Sanchez beat down, he would still manage to beat a high caliber fighter in Pintor and win titles at 126, and 130.

Azumah was a bit green but he was also a late replacement for Sal, and in that fight showed the skills and ability that would make him become an ATG himself.

I agree Freddy , two years , no matter how good you were in those years just isnt enough to make a comparison against greats who have covered a generation.

We can all say he was going to be the greatest , but the ring talks more than words.

Please this is no disrespect to Sanchez , but look at a prince Naz for example for two years when he looked great , but money and fame took its toll. Could this have happend to Sanchez too?

    We will never know.

I agree with Addie. Given enough time he could have ranked in contention with Armstrong and Pep as one of the best featherweights ever, or a pound for pound fighter with weight jumping and all that. He was superb physically and had all the intangibles

the diffrence here is, The Prince looked great against a bunch of B-C level fighters while Sanchez looked great against high caliber opposition.

    That is an outrageous comparison.

Sanchez had already amounted an ATG career in that short space of time before his death. He defeated great fighters in impressive fashion, whereas Hamed had only beat decent level fighters like Kevin Kelley and a washed up Wilfredo Vasquez. It's non-comparable.

    P.S. Sanchez> The Trio of Barrera/Morales/Marquez.
(Just the way it will always be)
