i've always had chavez as #1 and sal sanchez as #2.....BUT sanchez' win against gomez was better than chavez' win against camacho/rosario

Yep. Sanchez ranks higher than our 3 amigos.

IMO, it's Chavez number 1, Sanchez number 2.

But I have no doubt he would have surpassed him, had he only lived 2 years more.

I really think the late 90s featherweight scene was abnormally strong, can't in good conscience rank Sal above those standouts. Who could Barrera have fought, if his fights with an undefeated Morales and Hamed, to equal Gomez and Nelson? He fought the best out there, who were damn good, and you can argue that first Morales fight was a bad decision. No, two good years isn't enough in my mind, especially if 5 good years from Pac doesn't seem to be enough.

Look at the low regard Jones is held in now, but he was probably the greatest guy around supermiddle ever. He dominated for years and years and years, and now that he is shot, more or less, he gets no respect. The same would have happened to Sal's reputation if he kept fighting or had a really off night.

They did fight the best in their era, but Sanchez' opponents were simply greater. And Sanchez beat them in better fashion.

Sanchez would humiliate Naz worse than what Barrera did, and he would of beaten Barrera , Morales, and Marquez.

How would Barrera, Morales, and Marquez do against the likes of Lopez, Gomez, and Nelson???

I think they would have done well against all three, in my opinion. Gomez wasn't seen to be as effective at 126lbs as he was at 122lbs, and Nelson was very raw and inexperienced. I don't think any one of the three Mexicans would have been out of their depth in those particular match-ups, whether they win them or not is another story.

He was born Jan 59. He fought Lopez Feb 80 and June 80, age 21.

It's always tough with guys who die young. If he was shot by the time he was 25, people wouldn't rate him so highly.

IMO because of their propensity for constantly going to war, Lopez would be the most dangerous foe for any of the three. On paper, he had less skill than Gomez or Nelson, but his fundamentals were solid.

And then there's his power. Or should I say POWER? For a straight-up comparison, watch Sanchez-Castanon and then Lopez-Castanon.

But the potential was there. Beating Nelson, Gomez, and Lopez before dying at the age 23 explains it all. SS was a ****ing monster. But I would rate JCC higher than him though

2 yrs of domination to me is not enough. i have no doubt with his skills and talents but it can't be truly measured in just 2 yrs.
