At least I don't hide where I come from. Let me guess, for you, a win against Lacy is a great win, so you're from

    USA

Bute is one of about three or four fighters that could be called the best in the division.
Bute-undefeated titlist who has beaten Andrade 2x, Bika, and Berrio.I'd put Andrade and Bika both in the top 10 when Bute beat them.

Ward-undefeated titlist who has beaten Kessler and Miranda. Kessler was probably the number one guy when Ward dominated him.

Froch-undefeated titlist who has beaten Taylor, Dirrell, and Pascal. All three were probably in the top 10 when Froch beat them but I think he got a gift against Dirrell.

Abraham-undefeated and has beaten Taylor and Miranda. Not bad but Bute's wins are better.

Kessler-was the top guy but got beaten badly by Ward and has lost two of his last 4-5 fights so Bute should be ahead of him for now.

I don't see anyone else in the division who could be number one. With the next Super Six fights coming up I think the situation will stay just as cloudy when those and Bute's next fight are done.

You could put them in any order and I see no problem with it.

So for those of you who think he is the #1 SMW, does Miranda becomes the #1 SMW if he beats Bute? :D

OK, I just kidding about about that. A win for Miranda puts him in the top 5 though.

As for right now, there is no clear cut #1. Abraham, Ward or Bute could be fairly argued better than the other.

A case can be made for a number of fighters at the moment.

If you saw both fights, you are able to see a big difference in Pascal's fighting, 6 months or not.

Nope, Andre Ward dominated the guy that most people felt was number 1 in the world at that weight class in Mikel Kessler

One big win rarely puts you number 1 but it's ok for me to put Ward there. I just want to remind all posters that the thread question is: is it fair to label Bute number 1?

I think it is fair, as there are many points on his side. It's fair to call Ward number 1. I would consider it fair that it is Abraham. Bottom line, there is no champion and we need more boxing to clarify things. :bbb

Watch Kessler bouncing back!!! He had a bad day, was not used to fighting outside of his country, he looked completly out of it in his fight against Ward! I see Kessler kicking the hell out of Froch in the next fight and getting back at Ward if they are to meet again!!!
Having said that I also think, like manny of you, that there are 5 top fighters in the division and any of them could be #1: AA, Kessler, Bute, Ward and Froch! Direll is not far but not there yet. Hance, there is no #1 in the division... we shall find out in 2 years from now!

    Go Bute!!!

I agree with the Ring rankings except I would put Abraham fifth.

I think Abraham will do better than Kessler and Froch in the supersix but he hasn't earnt a higher ranking yet.

    1-Bute
    2-Ward
    3-Froch
    4-Kessler
    5-Abrahams

I think if Froch beats Kessler then he will be worthy number 1.

I think any clear winner of the super6 will be number 1 by the end of the tournament because Bute won't have the best competition!

If Froch wins against Kessler, I think I'll give him the number 1 spot too.
    I don't expect that though.
