Is it fair to say for most people the left hook is something you just have or don't.

How do you transfer it onto your rear foot though?

 

Shift weight to front foot at start of hook.
Shift weight to back foot midway through delivery.

 

I'm pushing off my front foot (as if I'm pushing myself backwards) as I simultaneously rotate my hips into thowing the hook. This pushing off my front foot counter balances the action of me throwing the hook otherwise I'd be unbalanced with my weight being over my front foot.
Also it drives my power right from the floor into the rotation and into the chin or liver of my opponent

 

Lamon Brewster, a champion with a powerful left hook shows us how he does it here (not exactly the way I do it but close ) BTW part of why his left hook nailed Golota so hard is because Golota made the mistake of going straight backwards instead of "stepping off the railroad tracks."

Yeah.

Of course no one has a Morrison left hook when first lacing up the gloves, so in a way it something you can train.

But if it turns out to be a Frazier left hook or not is due to talent.

I watched the Brewster-Liakovich fight a couple of days ago. It was funny how Liakovich kept nailing Brewster with a lag punch aka wide right or right hook and commentator Al Bernstein was completely befuddled by how Liakovich could throw that punch and not get his head knocked off by Brewster's left hook. Al, if you read this, it's because Liakovich was moving his head away from Brewster's left hook before Liakovich threw the punch. The hand lags behind the head. Props to Kenny Weldon for getting Liakovich so techniquely squared away for that fight.
