Is it fair to say that Cruiserweight has largely been seen as a nothing division?

More amazing is the 1000+ posts of drivel you have produced. As the 2011 Poster of the Year I'm allowed to pass this judgement.

Louis fought in a different era though. I'm not proclaiming that today's heavyweights are better than Joe Louis, but there are some heavyweights out there that I think would prove just too big for him.

I thought Huck beat Povetkin to be honest, but Povetkin hasn't really progressed at all since the Chambers fight and if anything his conditioning seems to be worse. I'm not quite as convinced that Huck would have fared quite as well against Wladimir or Vitali. (That's not me blowing smoke up their arses just because I'm a fan. I think Huck could definitely rattle Wladimir's chin if he was able to connect clean, and Vitali isn't what he was once.) Having said that, the likes of Povetkin and Helenius have been given problems by smaller opponents and I'm not unconvinced that Huck, Hernandez and other cruiserweights wouldn't be able to beat them. It's about styles, attributes and game plans on the night as much as it is about size really.

There are going to be some cruiserweights that are just a bit too big to make 175lbs comfortably, but too small to really compete with guys that weigh in at anywhere from 240lbs upwards. I'd say the 190lbs cruiserweight limit made more sense than the 200lbs limit does really.

The Batkilt; Louis fought guys that would still be considered big today, like Buddy Baer and Carnera (much underrated IMO) and laid waste to them, though funnily enough it was the former that gave him more hassle.

The fact he's the greatest puncher of all time, resilient, and would be showing feints to these guys they didn't know exist and I'd fancy him to be the most highly regarded Heavyweight today, and in a lot of other era's. He was that good. The only two big guys that could actually give him hassleare the Klitschkos; and I'd favour him to beat both with Wlad being the more difficult proposition, stylistically.

Genuine question here - isn't Primo Carnera generally considered something of a sham champion? I thought there was a widespread belief that most of his 'good' wins were fixed? (Not being funny, genuine question.)

To be honest once the Klitschkos retire I'm not sure if there is another fighter that's got the size and enough skills to keep the 'smaller' fighters at bay quite as successfully as they have. Povetkin - for all the promise he once showed - doesn't really seem to be capable, and none of the other prospects really seem to be either. I don't have a crystal ball so I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't be shocked if in a few years time cruiserweights are not just moving up to heavyweight to challenge for titles, but winning them instead.

As long as we don't end up with an American-centric heavyweight title picture once the Klitschkos retire then it could be interesting. I'm just not convinced that any of the ballyhooed American 'prospects' are actually that good.

No it's a fair question although much of that has been debunked. He was nevertheless a top contender type, and didn't always look horrible IMO, and certainly displayed more skill than a Valuev. I wouldn't say Dimitrienko has proven more than Carnera either.

I felt the K.O over Sharkey looked legit' myself.

Baer was basic, but big. Less crafty and flat put nails than his brother, he did bumrish Louis early and drop him but that's certainly not what Wlad or Vitali would do. Either way, Louis found his way into the fight and ended up beating the **** out of Buddy (twice IIRC)

I'm not covinced on the American prospects either. Seth Mitchell, Stiverne an others, dreadful.

I do rate Chambers though. One of Wlad's better scalps IMO, and in dominant and, briefly, scary fashion.

Well sadly Fitz your condition means you'll probably have to give boxing up. Hopefully you'll knock the posting on the head as well :hi:

  15. It's a shame that Wlad hasn't had the opportunity to really prove himself.

No matter how many dominant KO wins he racks up until he packs in, he'll forever be the ''if only he was ten years younger....'' man.

Probably more so than any other dominant champion in boxing history, any weight division.
