Is It Fair To Say That David Haye Has No Chance Of Being A Hall Of Famer Based On His Boxing Career?

I personally don't think David Haye deserves to be a Hall of Fame inductee for his boxing career.

At Cruiserweight, I have unbelievably heard a lot of people compare his successes to Usyk and Holyfield which is frankly laughable. He fought only two world title fights at Cruiserweight. In the first of these he stopped the overrated Jean Marc Mormeck to win the WBA and WBC world titles and then knocked out the poor quality Enzo Maccarinelli in two rounds to add the WBO belt. It is true that holding the WBA, WBC and WBO belts at the same time is an achievement but it is not Hall Of Fame worthy because of the level of opposition that he fought to win the belts and the fact that he only had two world title fights at Cruiserweight.

At Heavyweight, Haye won his WBA strap by winning a narrow majority decision against tall but limited Nikolay Valuev who has struggled to controversially beat a 46 year old Evander Holyfield previously.

Haye then defended his title against over the hill opposition in 38 year old John Ruiz and 39 year old Audley Harrison. Next he was schooled over 12 rounds by IBF and WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko. After that Haye put up his best performance at Heavyweight by stopping Derek Chisora in 5 rounds. Again, at Heavyweight Haye is well short of Hall Of Fame level.

He comes on here or at least he used to..... he got me banned for a week a few years back because I complained about his career and constantly pulling out of fights.

anthony Fowler comes on here regularly under a guise.

There are many boxers on here that are active, and we’re arguing about technique with them etc lol

The OP is correct. David Haye avoided the better prime cruiserweights at that time like Steve Cunningham who had the IBF title, and then Tomasz Adamek who won it afterwards.

I like Maccarenelli, but he was notoriously chinny and tailor-made for Haye.

Mormeck wasn't bad and was getting the better of Haye, but then Haye used an illegal deliberate rabbit punch (as he often did, see the Ruiz fight and other fights) to knock him down, and he never recovered from that blow.

If he'd stayed at CW then maybe he'd have a shout. But he underwhelmed at HW because he was too small and broke his body trying to make it something it wasn't designed to be. But he was a hell of a CW....

I think so. Hall of Fame is not synonymous with "ATG." Guys like Mancini are in it.

As for Haye, despite the cherry picking, pullouts, unbacked trash talking, an embarrassing loss, and the stinker against Wlad, I still respect the guy. Being a two-division champ with wins against Maccarinelli, Mormeck, Valuev, Ruiz, Barret, and Chisora may not be an ATG resume, but it earns my respect, and even though the fight stunk, he at least posed a credible challenge for Wladdy at a time when it was sorely needed.

You're right, hof doesn't equal ATG, not nowadays anyway. Haye will get in.

Hayes body of work is extremely weak for a man that's so hyped up by his rabid fans.

Had a decent career, great cruiserweight, decent heavyweight... Not enough for the HOF for me though.

He was only one punch and win away from the HOF. But no. I'd say he falls short. Although less qualified guys like Gatti have been elected in recently so who knows?

I remember all the threads about him when he was active. You could just about swap his name with Usyks in all the threads and the hype would be identical. Brit fans hype the crap out of any Brit wearing gloves. Not all of you, there’s a few running around here who know more boxing than I do, but those guys know I speak truth.

Hall Of Fame is not the Hall Of Accomplishments, so I think he gets in. He was hyped into high heavens at the time, as the one that would end the Klitschko reign. He even made the Euro version cover of Fight Night, in which he was massively overrated as well.
So, the fame was there, the accomplishments weren't, but possibly just enough for HOF introduction

I thought Haye did very well in a time where competition was kinda stale anyway. If Haye is not worthy neither is Wlad Klits because the HW div was trash from 2003 and on. It just now got good again. He is definitely HOF material for at least making HW hype again from the beef with Del Boy, my favorite HW still, to the Wlad build up.

That's a ridiculous statement. The division wasn't all that, but thatdoesn't mean nobody would qualify if Haye didn't.
That's like saying Joe Louis wouldn't have qualified if Schmeling wouldn't have been there.
Both Klitschko's have a massively better resume as Haye has, and a lot of heavyweights from the era on those lists had a much better resume themselves as Haye did. Just to name a few... Peter, Ibragimov, Povetkin, Brewster, Mercer, Chagaev, Byrd.
