Is It Impossible Nowadays For A Fighter To Crack The Top 15 ATG?

It seems that past fighters have set the bar too high. I can name fighters today that are ATGs like Pacquiao or Mayweather but i doubt anyone would put them anywhere near Top 15.

What makes it so difficult to become the best of the best ever?

For example lets take De La Hoya. He fought virtually everyone. Had he retired undefeated and beat everyone on his resume (obviously this can be said with many fighters but i use DLH as an example since his resume is stacked) could he have breaken in to the Top 15 ATG?

No, its not impossible. Pac, Floyd, and maybe Hopkins can accomplish the feat but it will require taking RISKS.

Pac can do it if he beats Mosley at 147 in 09 and then PBF in 2010

sweet pea is top 15 material...if pac wins his 7th division, he can be considered...if he beats PBF, he is top 10

Pac can if he beat Mayweather at 140 and beat Cotto at 147. He retire and let all the dust settle, soon his name will be brought up when people talk about the 10 best fighters ever.

The difficulty, of course, is building the necessary resume - you have to be willing to take the risks and you have to find top fighters willing to risk fighting you. Pac is in the position to now be the financial drawing card to allow this to happen.

Floyd could conceivably still do it by cleaning out WW & matching with a top JMW but nothing in his past gives any creedence to the notion that he has the desire to try.

Your DLH example is a good one. If he had run the board on his resume (the Hopkins win would be HUGE), he'd be right there. Again, he had the drawing power to get those fights and the willingness to take them.

    No its not impossible.

The thing about boxing: it's rich in history, there have been soooo many really good boxers and great boxers in the past that to crack that list really takes a remarkable amount of overcoming adversity and achievement (aka kicking ass)

It seems Pac is the one that could do it. If he beats Mayweather and Cotto would those two be enough?

Also what would Mayweather have to do to crack top 15?
