Every time I see anything with him on it with his so called expert opinion it winds me up.look at his 100 greatest boxers and tell me his head wasn't up the ****s of the older generations.jack Dempsey,4th greatest fighter p4p ??? On what basis ? How do they make a fortune and get labelled with the title experts ?

I think the same thing. He just had a storyteller voice and he liked the sound of it. A whole lot of BS.

There is plenty of info on the web about Bert he was a failed baseball writer and was no Boxing expert. He had nowhere to turn in his career so tried being a Boxing as a last resort. He also bankrupted Ring Magazine and used funds for personal things/travel but hey he would talk about all the old timers so everyone though he was some 'expert'

I loved that guy. Sure he was full of ****, but he was good for boxing. He was something different in a cookie cutter world. You didnt have to agree with what he said, at least he got the conversation going!

    HE IS MISSED.

He was a character and a good storyteller. But his old timer bias was off the charts. I'll take his old timer bias over the new timer bias of kids who don't know the history of the sport; but I'd rather have a balanced opinion from someone who can objectively look at both.
