Is it just me or does this singer look like Carlos Monzon a bit?

Naked Eyes! A blast from the past for sure. I never thought about it before but maybe a tiny resemblance, mainly the hairstyle. Carlos would have probably been insulted being compared to such a pretty boy. But then, Carlos was a movie star himself.

I sort of see it, maybe if he smoked a packet or two a day they’d be closer in appearance.

Back in the 80s I really admired Carlos because Ring en Espanol and, to a lesser extent, Guantes Magazine, used to write glowingly about him. And they had photos of him at gala events and all and one particular photo in which he has a dark suit and is holding a billiard stick and smiling and I was like "darn not only was this guy a great champion and well admired but he is super glamorous!"

And then the truth came and I was actually pretty shocked.

The thing is, Ring en Espanol received collaborations from writers from every Latin country, and this was good if it was a person-Im talking about the people here now, not the boxers-like Eusebio Pedroza, Roberto Duran, Salvador Sanchez, who were good human beings. But the Argentine writer glowed about Monzon without telling Ring en Espanol readers about what Argentine readers probably knew about: his piece of **** side.

Now, i should add, that as you all know Im also an airline aviation aficianada. many years ago i joined a Latin aviation page which was hosted from Argentina and basically with an emphasis on Argentine, then Latin, then Americas commercial aviation but also worldwide. One thing my Argentine friends there told me was that Argentinians do tend to do that with everything. Some remember the "good old times"-when those times were the times when the junta ruled. They also tend to paint over their heroes-for example, DIego Maradona was another person they hailed despite his short comings although in his case they were clearly not as huge as Monzon's. I dont know..as a fellow Latina, I still love Argentina and my fellow Latinos from there (even as I havent stepped foot there but I love all Latinos, and those from countries I havent visited well I love them from afar).
