Dude is on quite a streak, and at only 9(6)-0 has already started making a serious statement at the lowest weight class.

Guys like Rigo get alot the coverage and accolades for winning a title in 9 pro fights (which is pretty impressive), but you got guys like Ioka getting no mention (which is sadly the norm for the little guys) of winning a title in only his 7th go as a pro (against then 35-0-1 Sithsamerchai).

I mean usually Max over at HBO gives good mentions, and I have yet to hear anything.

Guess my point here is I just wanna know what everyone thinks about Ioka.

112 is the lowest I go. I just don't find the coverage on the very little guys.

Just because they don't get coverage doesn't mean you should ignore them altogether :nono

    Ioka's worth checking out, RM.

Guy's got some serious poise for someone with only nine fights, and some sick power in his punches regardless of weight class. His first round demolition of Chalermchai is on Youtube, and was one of the more vicious KO's of the year. I actually picked it as KOTY over Donaire-Montiel in my year end poll.

Think about it this way...the divisions below 112 have produced the likes of Finito, Ramon Gomzalez, and going back a ways, Jung Koo Chang and Micheal Carbajal. You can now add Ioka to the list of fighters from that weight that provide pfp entertainment.:good

Ioka is a huge deal. He had one of the best calendar years of 2011.

Sithsamerchai was the #1/2 strawweight in the world when Ioka iced him. A very impressive and unexpected win. He immediately asserted himself just below Joyi upon doing so.

The Hernandez win is more than just an "easy first defense," as Hernandez beat Fuentes who went on to beat Garcia to claim current #3 in the division.

And the recent 1st round KO over Chalermchai was wicked. Beautiful body shot against a guy who, while inexperienced and on paper, overwhelmed, showed up to win.

I bring up Ioka frequently in my posts and have never once incited any kind of response. People don't know him, don't care to know about him, or outright choose to not give any attention his way.

Ioka made my P4P top 100, and made it pretty high:

    Only 4 responses...

Probably because everybody else who thinks they have a rockin' amount of knowledge and insight for boxing couldn't type up more than a sentence on Ioka without boxrec-ing him or google-ing him to see others' opinions.

To be fair I have only seen clips of him on Youtube here and there. He looks very good for someone with such little experience, obviously.

He doesn't seem to waste punches and is very calm - again very impressive given his (lack of) experience.

Having said that the lighter weights are quite volatile, it takes class to have real staying power, so the next few years will prove a good bit.

I'd like to think him and Joyi will get it on someday, but that may be wishful thinking.

true.....but this is the internet. even things i know of i google of them...you have to know the person you are googling :hey

yeah couldnt believe it. great lunch time boxing aswell.

joyi needs to fight for the love of ****. :patsch the guy had a unification match with chocalitito on his ****ing doorstep. in a fight that could of given the division some exposure...and even if he lost he would of been in the biggest match that could of been made. and after the loss (knock wood) he would of been a big attraction world wide. a fight with ioka is possible and winable and could get him a recognition win after all these workman like efforts instead of his boxing and countering abiltys that got him into the position he is now.

Checking out your thread now :good

And like you were saying, a lot of people here claim to be massive boxing fans, but only pay attention to certain weight classes. To me hardcore boxing fans follow all weight classes.

With that, I am still learning about Ioka and haven't seen all his fights, but seeing that you seem to know about him hopefully I will learn something I might not have found on my own.

I watched his Uncle win a world title with the late Eddie Townsed coaching him from ringside on a stretcher.

    What a night that was.......

A fight with Denver Cuello might be on the horizon, that fight is possible FOTY material IMO.

Thats why I bumped it, a lot of guys get overlooked on here because of the whole floyd/pac thing.
A guy like ioka deserves to be more known imo:yep
