I remember when just about every weekend there would be several world class fights on around the world. Now it seems it's once every few months we get some good fights

There's been nothing of note happening for ages !

No more Friday night fights, no more wednesday night fights

Much less PPV quality bouts per year

    It really is quite sad

This year october was **** but november and December getting better with Pacquio/ Vargas
Lomachenko / Walters, Ward / Kovalev and Povetkin / Stiverne

unfortunaly I'm maybe not able to see Lomachenko / Walters in november and DeGale vs Jack in january :crybaby2:

It is going to pick up next year.
    - PBC should have about 80 nights boxing next year.
    - Fox should have 28 nights of boxing
    - Showtime: 20 nights.
    - HBO: 20.
    - Espn: 12.
    - NBC: 3.

Boxing will be back next year.

That's because PBC got those canceled bought up 200 fighter's contracts, and now is going under without the money to stage an event where they could fight. HBO and Showtime had to cut back either for money reasons or because PBC bought so much of the talent, but HBO is only interested in airing fights from about six of the top guys. Everyone else is sidelined, unless you fight out of Britain, Germany, or Japan.

seems like hardly any of the top fighters want to fight someone at their level. it's a boring era.

With Povetkin v Wilder cancelled, Fury v Wlad cancelled, Joshua v Wlad cancelled, Canelo v Golovkin cancelled, Golovkin v Jacobs """delayed""" (pending cancellation), I'm just eagerly waiting for Ward v Kovalev to get cancelled too so I can truly stop giving a ****.

HBO is closing the year strong but besides that, there is not much happening. Damn, it was fun when you had a note worthy fight every weekend.

I miss things like Friday Night Fights, even when we saw robberies every other week or sometimes even multiple per night.
At least we had something consistent back then.

But maybe the year's end will bring some excitement.

    That's actually a good question.

It's obvious that today there are FAR LESS quality and interesting bouts than 10-15-20 years ago

Only British boxing market seems doing good today.

In Germany we have maybe decent 2-3 shows per year nowdays.

In France and Italy there are almost no shows at all. Check Italian and French fighters in 70s - 80s -there were 10 times more active pro boxers in these countries and they fought 4-5 times per year.

In US it's 4-5 times less fights than 10-15 years ago.

No one wants to invest money in boxing unless TV is interested. And TV isn't interested in most cases.

10 and 20 years ago there were lots of clubfigters like Jerry Halstead, Rob Calloway, Buck Smith who fought often without any TV. There were often 7-8 events in US per weekend.

Today you can check boxrec and there are 1-2 (rarely 3-4) boxing events in the US per weekend. Only novices vs punching bags or (rarely) top-boxers on TV.

    That is just sad.

Here's the problem in a nut shell.

No one will fight each other at heavyweight.

No one will fight GGG at middleweight.

If not for Ward vs Kovalev, this sport is fringe at best.
