It seems to me there there are not too many very good prospects comming up in the sport.

In the 90's when I was growing up not only did we have a great heavyweight division with guys like Bowe, Holyfiled, Lewis, Mercer, Morrison, etc etc etc..But at the lighter weights we had guys that would become all time greats like ODLH, PBF, Roy, Shane Mosley, Tito, Tsyzu, Morales, Barrera etc. then we had guys that weren't A+ fighters but were damn good like Vargas, Quartay, Corrales, **** too many to name.

Now we get guys like Victor Ortiz and Jorge Linares who are suppose to be the next crop of superstars that end up getting beat badly by a decent fighter. Now maybe Linares just got caught cold and maybe he was hyped, but it seems like thats all these prospects are is Hype. There's just no one out there that I am really excited about.

Maybe I am being too harsh cause we have a good crop of fighters from the 04 Olympics that could become the next Superstars and some great Cuban propsects, not to mention Juanma. In the end I guesss there just doesn't seem to be as many great fighters comming up especially since the guys from the 90's can still compete and beat todays so called greats.

I know i'm opening up myself to alot of criticism here, but tell me who are the next legit superstars to carry boxing.

try to tell that to the "johnny come lately" fans of boxing. the majority are putting todays competition above most decades of the past.

In my opinion the Cuban's are the most exciting prospects. The Ring usually has a new up and comming fighter featured in it every month.

It was funny for a while but if the trend continues we may be stuck without any stars in boxing for the near future.

We need to make a list of the prospects that imploded recently and show who is left in all these upsets. Add to the list below:

    Bit the dust
    --------------------------
    Alfredo Angulo(sort of)
    Chris Arreola
    Victor Ortiz
    Urbano Antillon
    Jorge Linares
    Orlando Cruz
    James Kirkland (incarcerated)

    Still standing
    ------------------------
    Juan Manual Lopez
    Gamboa
    Valero

I grew up watching alot of the top fighters in the 90's, and yes, the magic isn't there today like it used to be. I think there are many reasons why. Lack of personality, over all talent, the ufc exploding in america, boxing's chief division "Heavyweight" suffering through a depression etc... I think can all contribute to boxings hangover from the awesome era of the 90's. Time will tell wether things maybe different in the 2010's, but one things for sure, boxing needs to do alot of work to get back to where it used to be.

    Valero? Maybe.

I'd say that Rigondeaux and Juan Manuel Lopez are the finest prospects at the moment, and the only real notable ones. Perhaps Dirrell if he can demonstrate some mettle in the Super 6.

But yeah, boxing politics get worse over time, MMA grows bigger by the day, and other such factors contribute to this effect.
