Is it justifiable to accuse old and declining boxers of ducking?

Recent example is Froch vs Groves. If it is evident a boxer is getting older and slower, is there any shame in turning down a tough fight against someone young and hungry? A more classic example would be Lewis vs Vitali.

    What does ESB think?

    Yes it's justifiable.

If they can't perform with the youth of the game then GTFO. It's a young mans sport.

Marquez is a great example. He has been avoiding alot of young fighters.... Thought he'd get the upperhand against the light hitting midget who didn't get knocked out by Pac that is Bradley but got a shock. Just like Froch got a shock.

Now he wants Pac or to retire.. I mean provodnikov lacks many boxing skills that a prime Marquez has... but Marquez & co are worried that he can't handle him. time to retire then maybe?

No! We should continue to give Mayweather a free pass for his ATG cherry picking! He's undefeated after all!

I've posed this question in different form a few weeks ago. If Hopkins were to fight Stevenson, win and retire would it be a duck of Kovalov even though Adonis is the lineal champ? I say absolutely not. A man that age should be able to retire on his own terms after giving so much to the sport. Jmo.

You would have a point if his resume didn't include Pac (2x) and Bradley in the last couple of years alone. It would have made no sense if he had chosen any of those "young fighters" instead of Pac/Bradley?

Same reason Pac has been "avoiding a lot of young fighters".

Yes if your still around and a champion you should fight the best regardless of age, Bhop doesn't get a pass for his ducking of the 2 best in the division and neither will Froch if he ducks Groves.

Maybe it depends on how much they have declined. When RJJ barely eeked by Tarver he would have been accused of ducking Tarver in a rematch but... fast forward a few fights and it was evident to everyone he was well past prime, so at that point no.
Now we all just want to get a restraining order against him getting in the ring.

Look at Mosley. He got his best paydays well past his prime. He was accused of ducking in his prime but fought top guys when he was old.
