Ok well Maidana has more boxing skill than the typical come-forward brawler. He also was able to dodge punches and make Floyd miss in the first half of the fight. Had he not gotten hit clean with overhand rights in the 2nd half of the fight he could have won the fight. So lets review : Maidana, while not a sweet science technician obviously, while mostly flat footed, he still showed that he has the ability to make guys miss and come back landing punches, which is what you have to do to win rounds vs elite skilled natural boxers like Floyd.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Broner was a lot more committed to offense and was a little more willing to trade, despite being outgunned. Teddy Atlas made an interesting comment after the fight about how he felt Mayweather fell in love with his defense a little too much in the fight, and for that reason Mayweather can be defeated. I agree with this because ultimately you have to throw and land punches to win fights, however I do agree with your point of Maidana throwing so many punches, that Mayweather was in his Philly Shell more than usual which effected his offensive output.

That's what I have been saying since 2003 regarding a fighter who's capable of troubling Mayweather. A solid wild aggressive fighter with power who keeps coming forward, never stops punching, throws from odd angles and lands anywhere he could find(shoulders, arms..etc) and generally stay in his face all night. Maidana definitely has the style, if only he had the size and stamina he would have won this fight.

Anything can be challenged, in fact I challenge you to go back and read my opening paragraph. You will see that I was not comparing winning and losing, but merely comparing spot success. Just for the record, I had Mayweather winning by a very slim margin.

I agree with the point you made in your opening post thing is most people are constantly in troll mode so sometimes takes them a while to get out of it and have a sensible discussion.

I actually agree with you eventhough, I know where you stand as a boxing fan in regards to Mayweather, however Broner also received more damage than Mayweather.

Maidana 100% received more damage against broner. It's not even debatable IMO.

But most people thought mayweather won so Floyd did better than broner.

I knew some overly pationate fans would react that way, but I try to stay away from engaging in petty insults that don't really have anything to do with boxing. But by that same token it's cool to see some boxing fans who can be objective, even when it come to their favorite fighters.

I think it's interesting to speculate on how much of an affect the Maidana Vs Broner fight had on the Mayweather one. I think that Maidana gained a lot of confidence from the Broner fight, which he brought into his fight with Mayweather, and a large part of his success was based on the fact that he showed Mayweather absolutely no respect and wasn't overwhelmed by any of it. A big part of his mindset came from the fact that he was able to hurt Broner so badly so even during the times that he was being made to miss and pay by Mayweather, he had confidence to stick to his game plan until the final bell.

I was only referring to spot success, I was not referring to winning or losing, but the journey in between.
