Fellas, I taped Eddie M. Muhammad's wicked 4th round KO over Lottie Mwale from 1982 off ESPN last night. E.M. Muhammad kicked Mwale's ass hard.. Originally I missed this fight when it transpired back in my high school days... HOWEVER! I thought Muhammad still looked soft / porky in the girth area during this fight at 175 pounds... Why was 175 so much of a struggle for Muhammad to make come 1982 / 1983??? Anyone out there recall when Eddie M. Muhammad weighed-in at 177 1/2 pounds for his summer of '83 rematch with Michael Spinks and REFUSED to shed the weight during the day of the fight? I was pissed at Eddie for his actions and whining about the scales being messed with.. It was pathetic... In my book, E.M. Muhammad never rebounded or ever got his career back on track after that "Scale" issue in 1983...... What went wrong with Eddie M. Muhammad??? MR.BILL:huh:rasta:bbb
He started out a lot lighter, I'm not sure if he ate his way up to LHW or just grew into it and doesn't have that naturally lean frame. Some people just have different body types. He ate his way up to HW and then shed 27 lbs in two months to fight Spinks so maybe he just gained and lost weight very quickly. His title-winning effort against Marvin Johnson is one of my favorite displays of bodypunching ever. I found it also interesting how open he left himself when he threw that nonchalant right hand. His shots were pretty fluid and he'd just leave himself wide open for a counter but Johnson wasn't able to get to him.
Good ****ING call.:thumbsup YES! Eddie Gregory began as a middleweight..:deal The hell was wrong with Gregory / Mustafa Muhammad?:huh MR.BILL
That was always his problem, he just didn't have the work ethic to make the most of his undeniable talents. Even against Galindez, when he looked as good as he ever had from a physical and technical stand-point, he just didn't put the foot on the gas when he needed to, and ended up losing a very close decision I thought he seemed more than capable of winning.
I agree.... BUT! In the past, I've been nailed to the wall for calling Eddie M. M. lazy..... Yet he was..... :deal MR.BILL
I wish I could find a dude who could send me a copy of BOTH Eddie M. versus "Snipes and Spinks" from 1981......... I do not have either fight on file........ MR.BILL
I would certainly say so. He looked like he was sleep-walking in the Spinks fight. One of the least inspired performances I've ever seen from a fighter of that caliber.
True, but Eddie had to drop 21 pounds to make weight for Spinks in July of '81......... Eddie was 201 pounds for Snipes a few months earlier..... The hell was Eddie doing in early 1981? :huh:scaredas: MR.BILL
I wish I had Eddie M. against Snipes at heavyweight on tape, but I do not... I used to have the Boxing Magazine that covered the fight, but I tossed it yrs ago.... MR.BILL
Are the kids of ESB too young to remember E.M. Muhammad? I'm stoked that I taped his '82 wicked KO over Lottie Mwale off ESPN a few weeks back......... Good stuff...... MR.BILL
Is it appropriate that a skilled but lazy fighter like Eddie later became the trainer of James Toney?
Yeah, but that lasted a fight or two....... Toney later told me in Vegas he left Eddie cuz it made NO SENSE to listen to Eddie when he (Toney) was / is a better fighter........ Toney had his ego rolling that evening........ WORD! Yet, Toney is greater than E.M. Muhammad...... TRUTH! MR.BILL:hatbbb
