I'd be willing to bet Hopkins never is outside of 5 pounds of fight weight, ever.

Now Mr. Hatton on the other hand....

Check the tale of the tape. He weighed 156 for Oscar, then weighed 169 on Fight Nigh. Was 159 for Keith Holmes, then 172 on fight night.

Considering Hopkins walking around weight is ~185lbs even when he was fighting as a middleweight then you are absolutely wrong.

He wanted to minimise the size issue and show that it was his boxing skills that would win him the fight

    You're right.
When they were at 130 lbs, Marquez would enter the ring at 138-140 lbs.
Pacquiao would enter it about 4 lbs heavier than that.

They spend more time training on their skill than they do conditioning to make weight

    Makes sense

    Don't forget Rigo and Lara

Every single one of them had more KOs and dominated the lower weight divisions much more then they do know. The reason these guys don't cut weight is because they want to show people they can fight at heavier weight classes and get more money. If Mayweather where to go down to 140 then he would destroy people even worse then know and we may see some KOs.

The disadvantage you get from no water around your brain is a lot smaller than the advantage you get from the weaker punchers. A super middleweight is much more likely to knock a 168lb walking around weight person with full brain protection from water then a middle weight fighting the same guy with less water.
