I don't mean to trash the guy in this thread, but there's no other way to put it. There's the scary KO of a still solid D/ck Tiger and the obliteration of a so-so champ in Rondon, but other than that his competition at 175 wasn't exactly sensational, and we all know his failings at heavy.

I used to think he was in that small, almost unassailable group at the top of the historical heap at 175, along with Moore and Charles. Now I'm not so sure. I definitely rate Spinks ahead of him.

From an eye-test standpoint, he seems to have all the tools, but doesn't always use them correctly, at least to me. He bends down at the waist a lot, perhaps to goad an opponent into action so he can counter, but otherwise a waste of impossible height and reach advantages.

    What are your thoughts?

I think his lengthy reign make him top ten material, but I wouldn't see the argument for a top five ranking, no.

Notable is that although he didn't crack a lot of elite light-heavies, he cracked a bizarrely long list of elite chins.

Depends on what the rating is. I don't think he's #1 in the division but definitely top 10.

I don't think Foster was/is overrated...back in his day, he was an absolute terror...no one 175 or lower could be considered safe...in fact, he had this aura of extreme menace...he really intimidated his opposition. He was the Killer Preying Mantis from Mars as far as I was concerned.

Best jab I ever saw at lt heavyweight and true one punch ko power in each fist especially that hook. In his prime he was a feared fight in his weight division. No top 10 lt hwt list is proper without Fosters name on it.

I have him top 3 with Charles and Spinks.his ko's of tiger rondon and Quarry were brutal and Chris finnegan was finished after his heroic challenge.
Carlos monzon may have considered stepping up a division had someone else been champion.
His jab was a great range finder and for softening up his opponent for that lethal left hook.

Bob was not overrated he was the man at 175 ruled division for years great boxer with one punch KO power one of the top LHW ever .him and spinks would have been a belter as would RJJ when he was at his best.oh if only.would have done better at HW but ran into smoking Joe and Ali can't blame him for that

I only wonder who is more over8ed? him or RJJ?
Surely they r z most over8ed LHWs OAT along wiz Calzaghe if he counts ez 1 end followd bay Hopkins.

Eny1 wu dabts zeir over8ednes komper zem wiz Tarver, Glen Johnson end Bobby Czyz end try 2 konvins urself y r zei sow mach beter zan diz 3.
Wud RJJ/Foster/Calzaghe/Hopkins per4m beter egeinst Czyz zan pre Tyson Holyfield did?
Haw did Foster per4m vs Doug Jones, wum woz (no mor zan) e LHW himself?
Foster woz z American Henry Maske, end posibli wors.

Spinks, Qawi, Charles, Wright, Lloyd Marshall (in fact e MW), Tarver, ol mast renk hayer.
Woz Foster eny beter zan Mustafa Muhammad? Wot ebaut James Toney iven?
Markegiano, Peralta, Patterson, Bivins, Doug Jones, Mauro Mina ol wer LWs wum r konsiderd HWs end der4 Du not get deir P4P dyu (except from Rocco wum iz vastly over8ed ez e h2h HW, end Patterson, wum iz over8ed ez sach, bat 2 e leser extent)

He didn't fare well against Terrell or Jones either, his body frame was all wrong for the big guys, but a great lhvy.
