Is it possible for anybody to ever be as good as SRR?

record wise anyway.... if a guy fights his whole carreer and consistently fights and beats all the best the world has to offer, and defends his title consistently against all the best and moves up in divisions to beat the champions of those divisions then yes he has a case but even then it would be a difficult case to make with just 40 or so fights, where as robinson had 202 fights,, 19 losses,,, and the vast majority of those losses came after the age of 40

Boxers now a days got a lot better pay and the promoters takes a chunk too. Too much money to split now which takes away the hunger of fighters. As oppose to fighters back then who have to fight 10 times a year and still be broke.

This is the way I see it. If someone comes along who, like Duran, wants to fight the very best at multiple weights and he goes unbeaten, or avenges all defeats, he will have a case. And you can write down all the names you want where RObinson is concerned - it doesn't matter. If you prove yourself the very best against the best at and above your weight, a comparison is called for. If the comparison shows that the fighter appears superior on film (very very difficult) and did better against the best they fought (not impossible given the number of fights Robinson lost at Middle) than he will be ranked above Robinson p4p.

But Robinson didn't fight the best AND he lost. So if someone fights the aboslute best AND goes unbeaten, say hello to the proper criteria to rank him above Sugar.

IE, De La Hoya had he beaten each fighter he faced or only lost to Hopkins.

Problem is DLH is not as talented as SRR and that would have to be taken into account.

Mayweather beat the man at 130. He beat the man at 135.. The man at 140. The former undisputed champion at 147, the current undisputed champion at 147, the man at 154. And even if goes on to beat Cotto, he'll be nowhere near the greatest boxer ever, despite beating the men at 5 weight classes and being unbeaten.

    That's how hard it is.

Your exactly right. I mean listen the 1st Shane loss was legit but what if the scorecards go in his favor in the rematch, his isnt screwed vs Tito and is able to pull out the Hopkins fight and win the Mayweather rematch. He would have a serious case as the greatest of all time with that resume. He wasnt that far off acheving that which is why I get pissed when hes so disrespected.

Its very possible just unlikely id suppose. Remember in 2003 when people actually wondered if RJJ couldve beat Ali ? Imagine if he stays at Heavyweight and the talked about Tyson fight goes off and he beats him which was certainley possible given that verison of Tyson then if in 2004 he fought Corrie Sanders or Vitali for the vacant belt Lennox Lewis belt he left behind and pulled out a victory. Jones himself would have had a case or how about DLH recently if the Tito,Shane rematch fights goes his way and he somehow couldve pulled out the Hopkins fight and beats Floyd in a rematch he has a serious case. **** if SRL doesnt have that 4 year or so period of inactivty and he beats Duran and Hearns agian in that time frame he would have a shot. What if Michael Spinks beat Tyson and retired like that ? **** what if the decisions agianst DLH and Chavez went in Sweat Peas favor and he retires before letting himself fight addicted to cocaine ?Alot of what ifs but theres some guys coming fairly close to having a legitmate case.

It would be difficult - But let's use another Sugar as an example.

If Ray Leonard didn't have the eye troubles - You look at how and who he fought in his career - And you have to think that he could have been considered alongside Robinson with a 50 odd fight ledger.

It'll be difficult - The biggest problem to my thinking is ego - Most guys don't have the DESIRE to become a Robinon type figure and if you're 35 odd fights into a career, making multi millions - It's hard to keep that intensity up!

Let's say Oscar De La Hoya knocks out Forbes, wins a dramatic fight with Floyd Mayweather, and then takes out Tito Trinidad in a rematch for good measure.

What more would he have to do? I mean, he's already got a great resume (he's won and lost some debatable decisions).

He has to be considered an ATG, but to be talked about alongside Robinson, he'd have to really pull something out (Beating Pavlik? Miguel Cotto?)

ODLH would have had to beat Hopkins to get to that distinction.
