I'm a mayweather fan myself but I do believe it's possible for him to over think in a fight and possibly get caught with a punch. Sometimes it's purely instinctual and u have to go with your gut(which is where is reflexes come in) but as we all know the older u get the more of the physical deterioration comes in to play. So reflexes get lost and now ur doing ur best to try and use ur brain to predict your opponents next move. But while your focusing on that next punch your reflexes aren't enough to get away from the 2nd 3rd or 4th. Anyway all I'm saying is with a wild and unorthodox puncher like maidana I think mayweather needs to not overthink Marcos's attack because it could make him blind to what comes after

Idk. I think mayweather's reactions have been cemented over the years and he can think as he does his defensive moves. Although they probably aren't as fast, I don't think he has to conciously think that much about how to duck/bob/slip/weave/block.

I also think that if he did, he would be smart enough to know that at a arms length plus a half step a way chino is too slow to catch him. His judgement of distance is still on. I'd worry more if it was a fast fighter.

yes, but thats not saying much, it doesnt take a whole lot for such a small brain to tax itself.

Believe it or not, I think that a lot of it is instinct. Thought is obviously involved, but most of his movements and reactions are pre-programmed after 1000's of hours sparring with the same system.

Age eventually gets to everyone. Floyd losing a step or speed is a big problem, but not career ending like it was for Roy Jones. Floyd actually has skills that will allow him to compensate for the loss in certain physical attributes due to age.

We see it now.....Floyd still has reflexes but he's just a little slower and less mobile. Instead of using his "wheels" as his primary form of defense where he can avoid risk by keeping enough distance between him and his opponent to pot shot and out point his opposition....Floyd now languishes in the pocket more....using more angles, lateral movement and pivots to score his points and inflict damage.

Thus......a much more exciting Floyd who is a pleasure to watch because he's doing some really high level stuff at this stage of his career. Before Floyd was all about winning based on superior athleticism and talent....with a splash of skills that left us wanting more...but Floyd wasn't looking to take any risk inside the ring earlier on in his career because he was just so damn fast, swift and athletic.

It's now that we as boxing fans are experiencing just how great this mans skills are. Some fans are struggling to appreciate Floyd because he's so corny and lame outside the ring but if they can get past all of that.....I haven't had some much fun watching Floyd in years.

You don't have the time to think in the ring. When he adapts he makes it instinctively due to his intuition and innate understanding of the sport.

Doubt Floyd, with all his experience, will allow something like that to happen.

I've thought the same thing, the person who makes him overthink will have success. I also think that's one of the ways he would lose. He was freaking out about his eye in the Maidana fight because it wasn't a part of his game plan and he had a mini panic because he couldn't see. And it's the punch you don't see... My point is, his eye got cut and he was thinking too much. Maidana swarmed, and he was thinking too much. Overall, he handled it pretty well though.
