Is it possible one day we will look at Calzaghe legacy much like Larry Holmes today?

    :yep

    No, but seriously.

I was watching Larry Holmes vs Ali on youtube and I am thinking, "is it possible we are too hard on Joe"?

    Is the comparison apt?

Calzaghe better P4P because of weight and undefeated status.

But Holmes was the better fighter and defied the greater odds.

I agree, Larry Holmes is one of my top 5 ATGs. I grew up during Larry's reign as champ. So yeah, I'm with you on that. But do you think that one day we may all look back and maybe boxing historians and fans who did not live thru the farce that was Joe Calzaghe era decide to give him a pass and label him an ATG?

I mean, Holmes defiantly showed he truly was that great during the nineties, and maybe surpassed Ali in someways because he was so effective against the young fighters at old age than Ali was at the same age.

It's no crime to admire a certain fighter, but sometimes fans want EVERBODY to love their hero, as if to substantiate their own flimsy claims of greatness.

To answer the question....yes, some people are too hard on Calzaghe.

I think the "0" will catch some people's eyes in the future, but most people know to look with some degree of objectivity.

agreed. there are other 0s in history...marciano, lazlo pap have 0s. So does Joe Mesi. No one puts them on the same level and with good reason. Calzaghe as well shouldn't be lumped into some mythical "undefeated" bracket because really it means ****.

WHO was he undefeated against? that's what matters. Who did he beat and how did he do it?

    The year 2089:

"Dude, Calzaghe's a #1 ATG! He beat Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins and Jeff Lacey!!".
