Is it possible that Calzaghe is overhyped because BOTH Lacy and Kessler were?

Calzaghe's about as overrated as PBF, and in my book PBF is #1, Clalz #2 PFP. Must admit though, I'm not a big fan of P4P ratings

Well said mate,he hasn't always picked the 'right fight',but to say everyone he's thought are bum's is absolout shite.
Eubank,Mitchell,Brewer Woodhall are not **** boxers, some pst there best but who care's,he's beaten Lacy and Kessler now so all you muppets should now shut up.:good

It's funny how Kessler's suddenly a hype job as well now:happy

    No. Calzaghe is not overrated.

Calzaghe put on masterclass performances against both Lacy and Kessler. Both fighters were picked by a majority of boxing writers to upset Calzaghe. Calzaghe's talent is self-evident. Calzaghe is a master boxer and and a rare champion among men. I am so glad we will finally see him match up against Bernard Hopkins. As with his previous opponents - a match with Hopkins should bring out the best in Calzaghe. However - success is not guaranteed. Hopkins is as crafty and sly as any champion in recent years. He will not go away quietly.

Its quite amusing how sensitive people around here are about Joe almighty I was only being speculative. Yet you people act like like calzaghe's beyond doubt. Im not suggesting that Calzaghe is not a great fighter. He might well be. But he wouldnt be the first fighter to build up a huge record in Europe/Britain and them leave only to lose. I just have this doubt in the back of my mind that he is going to go over to America and get broken apart against Hopkins, and people are gonna say 'well yeah, it was obvious, who had he beat'. I guess we will see. ;)

Is it possible that Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and Gerorge Foreman were over hyped because their opponents were? :huh

People should bare in mind the feeds of the Lacy and Kessler fights which were broadcast in the USA were actually slowed down, that is they were shown in slow motion at 75-85% speed.

This was to make Calzaghe appear less blindingly fast than he actually is and to protect the repuation of American promoted cash-cows.

This is an assinine chain of reasoning; as though a comment that Floyd once uttered is ipso facto sacrosanct because its Floyd. Floyd is the pound for pound #1 boxer, not p4p intellectual, nor p4p boxing analyst. DLH and Bernard Hopkins though Ricky Hatton was going to beat Floyd. A fighters opinion is just as subjective as anyone elses. Im sorry you cant think for yourself an take recourse in other peoples opinions.

Well questions can always be asked, but I would those guys, Ali in particular, did enough to prove themself. But yeahs some people do think that Ali is overathed. But that has more to do with being rated so exteemely high than to do with questions about whether he is a great boxer or not.
