Is it possible Ward could become greater than Mayweather?

Ward showed a lot more offensive commitment and artillery against Dawson. He has always shown great technical abilities, but this could be his breakout performance as a more dominant, aggressive, destructive fighter.

He is 28, and is already a unified smw champion, Super Six tournament winner, p4p#3, and still undefeated. The level of superiority he has shown against top opposition (Kessler, Dawson, Froch) is reminiscent of Mayweather in a way (except Ward hasn't met his Castillo yet).

Is it overstating it to say Ward could become perceived as a greater fighter than Mayweather, if he continues to achieve at this rate over the next few years? Or are Floyd's achievements too far out of his reach?

If Ward beats Kessler in Denmark, Pascal in Canada, becomes a unified champion at lhw as well, and has a reign as p4p#1, and continues to improve as a fighter, is it feasible he could become greater than Floyd, or is there no chance of this happening in your opinion?

    Go watch Mayweather-Gatti, or Mayweather-Corrales

By 28 Mayweather was a 3 weight world champ, and regarded as the best in the world, and still undefeated

    -Yes it is overstating
-Ward won't travel to Denmark or Canada
-LHW is a poor division, Mayweather is a 5 weight world champ
    -P4P rankings aren't a title, you don't have a reign as P4P :lol::patsch

Silly thread by a silly poster. Moving on

Im a huge floyd fan. But its more of his skillset than his resume kuz above 135 its pretty thin. Ward has faught any and everybody in his division besides lucy. Sure floyd has the moving up in weight but he really hasnt beaten the best oposition available when he did move up. Ward may not have the better resume but that fact that its gettin kinda close an he still has his best years in front of him that makes me think he can do it

An im not a big fan of wards style very talented but much like b-hop, i respect en but dont really enjoy them.

Although I don't think he will. I think he has the ability to do so.

He's dominated 1 weight division. 1. And in that entire division there are only about 2 elite fighters.

Lil Floyd had the skills, but not the balls

Ward - Oakland based as he may be - has pretty much fought them all

But..... He's already shown signs of Floyd like pussification by fighting Dawson at an unfair weight

It remains to be seen whether he goes on and takes on the best at proper fighting weights, or pussi chickens around when he inevitably gets to the p4p top

Yeah its possible, I'm afraid he may run out of "name" guys to fight, but he's off to a good start.

While Ward has shown a desire to face the best competition possible, that competition is still pretty limited compared to the opponents Mayweather has chosen.

We're watching a great career unfold, there's no reason to rush to compare it (other than your pwnage of Joe Cal thread).

Floyd Mayweather was legitimately the best fighter at his weight at age 21! He was regarded by all as one of the best fighters in the world(top 5 at least) before he was 25! People don't appreciate how special guys like Floyd and Pac are. One of the last generations of natural talent and brilliance. Ward is a great fighter. He is in his prime and is dominant, but he'll have to go up and win a HW belt to even get close to Floyd.

Of course definitely. It's not like any of his most important fights are fought down to the wire he's either dominated or crushed them. Kinda early to tell Floyd had his Castillo Ward might still get his version of Castillo. And when he does, when he gets pushed to his limits we'll see how he handles things. I think Ward might actually be alittle cooler and actually fight under pressure better than Mayweather, but we'll see.
