Is it possible Ward could become greater than Mayweather?

Of course its possible, if he keeps winning in the fashion he has been & steps up to LHW & even CW & doesn`t lose or doesn`t have too many controversial decisions aka gifts then that is the way forward.

If he keeps on facing the best available even when he has made his money as the top p4p fighter on the planet then that is something floyd has not even done.

If floyd had fought & beat pac in 2009-11 then I would likely say that at 28 it might be mission impossible for Ward to be greater than fmj but that massive black mark against floyds name will always mean that another very good fight can overtake him, even at 28.

My own bet would be that he probably won`t go down as greater than fmj but he most definitely can.

Probably not. I don't think he will have the opponents to test himself against. He's already beat the best at 168 and 175. Unless some new talent hits those divisions I say no.

    This is my thinking.

Butcher mentioned an eventual move up to Cruiser, that's really what it would take at a minimum IMO. (and even there, it's a weak division without any premium talents available so the achievement would still be a bit hollow and easy to pick apart no matter how classy and dominant Ward remained)

I don't think Ward has the frame to get all the way to CW I just don't see it. He would be too small for those guys. The problem with Ward is where he's starting at if he started at 160 and cleaned it out he could still move to 168 then 175 but he's at 168 so he would have to go all the way up to 200 pounds and it's too much IMO not to mention just not enough big names at those weights.

I think a lot of people on ESB need reminding that Mayweather's HOF legacy existed already before his 'feud' with Pacquiao did.

    He didn't debut at welterweight.

The World Awaits wasn't his first dance with a fellow great.

He doesn't need to win in 5 divisions to be greater he just has to beat great fighters !

Is unreal how people hype fighters from a couple of fights and start to make ridiculous statement. Can ward surpass Floyd in achievements? Yeah maybe, but highly doubt it bc Floyd have already achieve a lot more by the age of 28. For starters Ward drop from light heavyweight to compete in super middle weight while Floyd cleaned out a division at 21 years old and dethroning champs in multiple weight. Plus Skill wise of 21 year old Floyd was far more impressive than current day Ward. A lot of the moves and strat that he applies were prolly learn from Floyd when Ward watched Floyd train/spar. Ward has improve drastically but he is still way behind.

Chad, Froch, AA, and Kessler are the four big names that Ward beat as oppose to Henderaz, Corrales, Castillo x2, Gatti, Judah, Oscar, Hatton, JMM, shane, cotto. Meanwhile Floyd kept moving up to beat the best per division. How is this even close? Or debatable?

It is "unreal" to ask if something is possible, when I myself then admit it is indeed possible.

    Contradict much?

not afraid to fight anybody? He is afraid to fight outside of his town.
I like Ward and have always bet on him to win but he is one of the few that i'll do something else instead of watching the fight after 4 rounds. He have too much of a bhop/hatton taste when he attacks and mauls and fouls you like crazy. The amount of clinches took up half the fight.
